Longfellow Elementary Weekly Update

The mission of Longfellow Elementary School
Information on Level 4 starting on Monday, October 26
• Virtual Academy students will have no change in their schedule or learning days.
• School days will be Monday through Thursday. More information will be coming out on what the child’s day will look like on Friday.
• School hours will now be from 8:30 am to 2:52 pm. Children will still not be allowed into the building until 8:15 unless they are in the Boys and Girls club.
• Children will still enter and exit the doors they were using in level 3.
• Children will not be allowed on the playground after school. They need to go straight home.
• We will not be able to social distance in the classrooms; therefore, masks will need to be worn unless the class goes outside for a mask break
• For lunch, children will be 3 feet apart from a classmate but at least 6 feet apart from another class. This plan has been approved by Cass County’s epidemiologist, but since they are not wearing masks it does mean that if we have a positive case of a child the 3-4 people around this child would go into quarantine instead of an entire class. Teachers will be given the seating chart we use at lunch so they can keep these same groups together at snack and breakfast time.
• The importance of wearing masks properly and having the right type of mask is going to be even more important. Currently, the state is asking students not to wear gaiters, bandanas or masks that has a valve on them
• The last thing that will be different with level 4 deals with Longfellow hosting the Early Childhood Special Education. They dismiss their children at 2:40pm. This means we need to save some space on 29th Ave N for their buses.
