District Quality Survey
Look for the Saline Area Schools District Quality Survey in your inbox! The Quality Survey is distributed annually to families, staff, and students (in grades 3-12) and provides important feedback on student and academic support, school leadership, safety and behavior, family engagement, and school operations. The District uses the results to continue making meaningful changes in our schools. Families are invited to learn more about the use of the Quality Survey results from 2023-2024 by viewing the Board of Education report. As with any survey distributed to students, participation is optional. Students will be informed of their choice at the time the survey is administered. Parents who would like to preview the survey or prefer to opt their child out from participating are invited to contact their building principal.
Important Measles Information
Currently in the US, 25 states and our neighbor Windsor, Ontario are experiencing increased cases of measles and measles outbreaks. As of April 25th, there have been confirmed cases in 5 different Michigan counties (no identified cases currently in Washtenaw County). Our district is working closely with the Washtenaw County Health Department (WCHD) to prepare in the event of a measles case in our county or one of our local districts, and we are sharing the following information with families at the request of the WCHD.
Facts about measles:
Measles is one of the most contagious diseases.
Measles spreads through tiny droplets in the air when a person coughs, sneezes or talks.
90% of persons without immunity to measles will become ill after exposure to the virus.
Measles can live for up to 2 hours in an airspace after an infected person leaves an area.
Measles can cause severe illness including miscarriage and premature birth in pregnancy.
The best protection against measles is the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine which provides long-lasting protection against all strains of the measles virus.
Symptoms of measles usually begin 7-14 days after exposure, but can appear up to 21 days after exposure and may include:
High fever (may spike to over 104˚F)
Cough
Runny nose
Red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
Tiny white spots on the inner cheeks, gums and roof of the mouth (Koplik Spots) two to three days after symptoms begin
A rash that is red, raised, blotchy; usually starts on face and spreads to the trunk, arms and legs three to five days after symptoms begin
If symptoms develop, call your doctor, urgent care, or hospital before seeking treatment so steps can be taken to prevent exposure to other individuals. In addition, please notify the district nurse if your child is being evaluated for the measles or if measles is suspected.
As with all communicable illnesses, we will follow the guidance from the WCHD regarding reporting, exclusion and cleaning protocols. Under the current guidance released this month, most unvaccinated individuals exposed to measles will need to be excluded from school for 21 days.
For the most up to date information about measles locally and in our state and for vaccine resources, visit the Washtenaw County Health Department measles webpage. Please reach out to your medical provider for questions regarding your or your child’s vaccine status and for additional guidance.

Closed Campus Policy
We want to remind everyone of the importance of our Closed Campus Policy. For the safety and well-being of all students, leaving campus during school hours is strictly prohibited unless prior approval has been granted. This policy helps us ensure a secure learning environment and maintain accountability for all students.
Skipping has always been against school rules as students are expected to follow their class schedule as printed unless a parent has called them out sick or released early/late due to a purpose indicated by a parent or guardian. Leaving campus for lunch is also considered skipping. Saline High School is a closed-campus for lunches.
Students who choose to violate this policy will be subject to appropriate consequences. We appreciate your cooperation in reinforcing these expectations to help keep our school community safe. Our primary focus has always been educating the youth of Saline, and to do so, they need to be in class participating in their education.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.

Educatius Host Family
Learn a New Culture!
Do you have an interest in learning another culture while sharing America with an excited teen whose dream it is to study abroad? Do you have an extra bedroom or a room a student can share with your teen? If so, becoming an Educatius host family might be a great role for you!
Partnership
Educatius, the world’s largest organization helping international high school students across the world study abroad for 20+ years, is partnering with Saline High School, and we are qualifying families now to serve in this role for next school year – 2025-2026!
Program Details
Click here to learn how you can expand your family by saying YES and “unlock your world” by hosting an international student!
Families who host through Educatius receive a monthly stipend to offset costs, training and local support throughout the year, and students come with their own spending money and health insurance and pay tuition to our school partners, bringing cultural diversity and financial support into the communities they call home (less than a year commitment that will create memories for a lifetime).
