Math Reminders...
Have your child explain his/her thinking when solving problems. You would be surprised to hear some of the students’ unique ways of thinking. Although it is tempting, please refrain from teaching your child the standard methods (these would be the methods you probably learned when you were in elementary school). It is best to have students practice using the methods we are doing in class. Have your child show you these ways at home.
Don’t forget, Bridges Mathematics has a fantastic online resource for students to practice their skills as well!
Or check out your child’s Google Classroom! There may be fun math games there too!

Winter iReady Window
KASD students in grades K-8 will begin a computer based i-Ready Diagnostic in both Reading and Math. The i-Ready Diagnostic is adaptive in that the difficulty level adjusts based on student responses, creating a more individualized assessment experience. The results help inform classroom instruction and monitor student learning growth over the school year and from year to year. The i-Ready Diagnostic will be given again in spring of this school year.
Morning Y-care Message
The following information will be sent to YMCA before- and after-school families by the YMCA.
Important Update on Morning Door Security and Access Procedures at EQ and NDLC
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope this message finds you well. As part of the Kaukauna Area School District’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all students and staff, we will be implementing a new procedure for accessing the school building in the mornings. This change is designed to enhance the security measures and create a safer environment for everyone.
Morning Door Security:
Starting Wednesday, January 15th, the entrance at EQ/NDLC will remain locked during the morning hours prior to the official start of the school day. This policy ensures controlled access to the building while fostering a safe and welcoming environment for our students and families.
Access for Before-School Care:
Families participating in before-school care will need to follow the updated access procedure:
The new entry in the mornings will be at Door 9. This is the door with the purple awning located on the playground.
Upon arrival at Door 9, please call (920)209-5919 to notify YMCA staff of your arrival.
Signs with the phone number will also be posted on the door.
A staff member will promptly meet you at the entrance to provide access to the building.
For convenience and efficiency, we recommend saving this phone number in your contacts.
4K wrap-around: After 7:45am, parents can continue to utilize the main entrance door for entrance to 4k wrap-around
**Please note: Before School Care entry will remain at door 9 until 7:45am each morning.**
We kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring that doors are not propped open or left unsecured at any time. This small effort contributes significantly to maintaining a secure environment.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we prioritize the safety of our school community. If you have any questions or concerns about these updates, please do not hesitate to contact the school office or the YMCA.

Early Literacy Screener Grades 2 & 3
To KASD Families With Kindergarten Through Third Grade Students,
Beginning this winter, as part of the statewide implementation of Wisconsin Act 20, all students in grades K-3 will take an assessment called the aimswebPlus early reading screener. A screener is an assessment that quickly checks your child's reading skills.
What skills will be tested?
The screener will check important reading skills including alphabet knowledge, letter sound knowledge, phonemic awareness, decoding, and oral vocabulary. The skills are tested differently based on your child's grade level.
When will the reading screener take place?
The aimswebPlus early reading screener will take place this January for grades K-3 and will be administered again this spring. Beginning in the 2025/ 2026 school year the screener will be administered in the fall, winter and spring.
What information will parents/caregivers receive?
We are partnering with NextPath, a platform used to manage student data, to help organize and easily share information with families. You will receive a link via email from NextPath and will get directions to access your child's reading screener results.
How will the information be used?
The information from the early reading screener is one way that your child's teacher will learn about your child's reading skills. If your child's score is below the 25th percentile, additional diagnostic assessments will be given and a personalized reading plan will be created to help your child meet grade-level goals.
Questions?
Should you have any questions, please contact your child's school principal.
