Thank you to the PTA and all of our families for all of the kindness (and delicious food!) provided to our faculty during teacher appreciation week. We are lucky to be part of such a special community!

Lizzy Haddon PTA invites your family to participate in Raise Craze and harness the power of paying it forward! Raise Craze is a unique fundraiser during which students will focus on serving others while asking friends and family to sponsor their acts of kindness.

• Dates: May 13th- May 31st (You can start setting up your platform as early as May 9th!)

• Goals:

  • 100% of Lizzy students participate (What’s great is even if everyone cannot earn money, everyone can sign up and perform acts of kindness!)

  • Raise money to go towards:

    • Digital Learning Platform (BrainPop)

    • Learning Resources across the school

    • School community-building event for 24-25 school year

It is our hope that as many families as possible will register so that all students can participate in logging acts of kindness and earning incentives for their class!

Enter your child’s name

1. With your child, select at least 3 Acts of Kindness (from a list provided, or add your own) for them to complete at school, at home, or in their community (i.e. chalk your sidewalk with kindness, help an elderly neighbor, etc.)

2. Enter 5-10 email addresses of potential supporters of your student’s Acts of Kindness. The Raise Craze platform will do the rest!! They send all emails, reminders and thank you notes! Please note that emails will never be shared with third parties or used for marketing.

What Is Raise Craze? Raise Craze is an online platform enabling students to goal set, complete, and track AOKs as well as request donations via email, text, or social. We’ve chosen Raise Craze because it keeps kindness and inclusivity at the center, while allowing our school to keep more than 90% of the donations!

Each Spring, all New Jersey public school districts must administer achievement tests developed by the New Jersey Department of Education. New Jersey students in Grade 3 to 9 will be tested in Literacy and Mathematics through the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment. Students in Grades 5 will also take the NJSLA Science, an online cumulative measure of science standards.

Please make every effort to have your child in school during the testing period to limit disruptions to instruction.

The testing schedule for EH Students is below:

TIPS for successful testing:

• Ensure that your child has a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast
• Write your child an encouraging note to read before school.
• Remind your child to try their best and show what they have learned this year.
• Arrive at school on time
• Leave all electronics (cell phones, iPods, iPads, Apple watches, etc.) at home.
• Bring headphones, a water bottle, and a physical book (no e-books) to read in case of finishing early.

This month, the RULER lessons will focus on emotion words that can be used to describe an emotion in the “green” quadrant of the Mood Meter. Individuals who can use words to express emotions are better prepared to work skillfully with those emotions and then determine if they want to stay with that emotion or shift how they feel. Students will be introduced to words such as kind, relaxed, comfortable, forgiving, supported, serene, and understood. We encourage you to read the parent connection letter linked below. These letters are a great way to reinforce what your child(ren) is learning at school.

At last month's school community meeting, we reviewed the behavior expectations for our students As we start a new month, we wanted to send a reminder about these important guidelines that help create a positive learning environment for all students. Please review these slides with your child at home to help us reinforce these expectations.

Reflex is an online, game-based program that helps students build fast and effortless recall of

We’re using IXL to support our curriculum in Math and Language Arts this year, and your child has access to this online program at home. This is a reminder that students are not permitted to play after school unless a parent or guardian supervises them. As per district policy and the school handbook, students are expected to go directly home at the end of the school day unless supervised by a parent or guardian. After school students are to be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. I appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

As Halloween approaches, please do not send candy in student's lunch or snack. Also, do not send in sports drinks for lunch.

School community meetings are monthly all school assemblies. They typically include a greeting, sharing of a book of the month, sharing of some kind of wonderment to get students thinking, giving our class Dragon of the Month awards, and singing of our school song. At some community meetings classes or clubs share a project or something they are learning about. While parents are always welcome, if your child's class is sharing the teacher will let you know if you would like to attend. Attendance is certainly optional.

Please send your child in with one healthy, easy to eat snack each day. Please do not send in candy as this is not permitted in school.

We have seen an increase in nurse visits to start the year. Please discuss with your child that they should ask to see the nurse in the following scenarios. Also, please contact the nurse at lewing@haddonfield.k12.nj.us if there is an injury at home requiring treatment at school and gym restrictions for an out of school injury.

• Unresolved stomachache or headache after trying self help strategies (i.e. water, a snack, lunch and bathroom).

• Any serious illness, injury or bleeding

• Injury to the head, face, eyes, and neck

• Painful limb injuries that may be sprain or break

• Pain due to a fall

• Fever, feeling feverish, shaking, chills, reports fever

• Vomiting or diarrhea

• Asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties

• Scheduled Medication or need for medication

• Possible allergic reaction or exposure; insect bites or stings

• Lost permanent tooth

We have noticed a trend that is causing disruptions in the classroom. Students are using their smartwatches to text or call home without teacher knowledge or permission. As our handbook and the student Acceptable Use Policy state, cell phones should be shut off and in backpacks. While students can continue wearing smart watches they should be in airplane or school mode. Students are not permitted to call home from watches during the school day.

If students need to communicate with you, they should call from the classroom or main office. If a child is using a device without teacher permission it will be confiscated until the end of the day. Frequent occurrences of unauthorized use will result in no longer being allowed to bring these devices to school. Thank you for your assistance with this.

We are excited to announce that the PTA has once again covered the cost of the directory for the 23/24 school year. If you were a DirectorySpot user last year, then you don’t need to do anything. If you are a NEW user, you can download DirectorySpot for free from the App Store (iPhone users) or Google Play (Android users), or you can also access the data from the web: https://www.directoryspot.net. There will be no paper directory, everything is through the app or website.

If you are already in the directory, please log in to confirm and/or update your family contact information. Please note that we will update student grade levels in July, so it might be best to log in sometime in August. If you need to make a change, you will need to do so using the website, not the app.

If you are new to the district or you were never added to the directory, please fill out this form and you will be added to the directory by October 1, 2023. After the beginning of October, I will update the directory on a weekly basis as new submissions come in.

Dogs are not permitted on the school property during school hours and at drop off and pick up times. Although many children feel safe around animals, some children have adverse reactions to pets even though they may be well trained. We have noticed some families bringing pets onto the school grounds especially at morning line-up or pick-up. Please be considerate of others by cooperating with this policy.

All Community News must be sent to Mr. Chuck Klaus’s office for approval. Community members should submit their news by email to Ms. Channell Jorrin at cjorrin@haddonfield.k12.nj.us in order to be included. Please do not send news directly to the school principals.
