Be Glad...simply put, the best training I have ever seen for educators. It is expensive, but wow...it is excellent.

Peer Coaching
Remember the challenge I posed to you a few weeks ago...to conduct walks at another campus with a fellow principal or assistant principal? We had so many people participate, even after the incentive was removed, and the feedback was fantastic! I have a follow-up challenge for you, one I believe will be equally beneficial.
1. Conduct a more substantive observation with another administrator.
2. Collaboratively plan a coaching conversation together. What will you reinforce? What will you refine? What language will you use to prompt reflection? How will you establish next steps? How will you hold the teacher responsible for implementation?
3. Role play. Practice with each other and provide feedback. What worked? What didn’t? What recommendations can you provide?
Write me an email upon completion summarizing the highlights, and the first four respondents will receive a treat!

Data Conversations
I have mentioned to many of you a practice that I had in the past of conducting Data Conversations. About every 6 weeks I would get a floater sub, make a schedule, and have about 30-45 minute conversation with every teacher. The purpose of this conversation was for me to know the situation and plan for every child on my campus. I would then connect the child/teacher with the necessary resources and ensure that there was a plan for each child on my campus. This conversation differs from a coaching conversation in that the goal was not to coach and improve the teacher craft necessarily but rather ensure that the teacher had a plan for the success of every child.

K-2 Suspensions
As campuses strive to follow new legislation about permissible consequences for K-2, we would like to remind you that House Bill 674 prohibits the use of out-of-school suspension for students below grade 3 unless the student engages in conduct that contains the elements of:
A weapons offense
Assault, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault , or
Selling, giving, or delivering to another person or possessing, using or being under the influence of marijuana, a controlled substance, a dangerous drug, or an alcoholic beverage.
Some campuses have experienced difficulty in determining what rises to the level of assault. If you have a situation that you think fits the criteria above, please call student services for clarification prior to suspending the student. If you still have questions about the matter, please contact your area director.
Loss of Recess as a Consequence
Furthermore, there should be no whole class consequences.
Please let me know if you need clarification on this issue.
