The Cougar Connection
Lafayette Elementary November 18th
Dear Cougar Families,
As we enter this season of gratitude, we want to take a moment to thank our incredible school community for your ongoing support and partnership. From our dedicated staff to our enthusiastic students and supportive families, we are truly thankful for each of you. We want to especially thank the 40+ volunteers who came out on Saturday to beautify our gardens. Thank you SO MUCH! During Thanksgiving break Megan will stay in town and celebrate Thanksgiving with family. We play a ton of crazy games (ask me about the pumpkin hunt!) and make wayyy too much food. I’m also hoping to catch the movie “Wicked”. Robin will be staying around town enjoying a bit of theater and hockey!
Lafayette Elementary will be hosting our open enrollment tours this week!
Do you know any families with younger children who may start school next year or families who are interested in Lafayette Elementary? Please direct them to our website to sign-up for open enrollment tours tonight and Thursday. RSVP Here.
We wish you a joyful Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and plenty of delicious food! Thank you for making Lafayette Elementary such a special place to learn and grow.
Go Cougars!
Sincerely,
Megan Weir, Principal and Robin Stone, Dean of Students

School lunch reminder: Pick 3 to make it free!
School lunch is free for all students this school year. However, by federal guidelines, a school meal must include at least three components to qualify as "free". We understand that some students who bring lunch from home may still want to have school milk or something from the salad bar and families may be confused when there’s a charge for these items. BVSD Food Services shares a simple way to avoid these extra charges by selecting the three required items for a meal. Read more: School lunch reminder: Pick 3 to make it free

New Boulder Valley School District Attendance Policy
As you have heard by this point, BVSD has adopted a new attendance policy.
What does this mean for you?
The school and the district will remain in communication with you regarding your student’s attendance. When your student reaches a certain number of absences, (you can find the breakdown below) you will receive an attendance letter. Depending on the number of absences, an in-person meeting or further intervention may be scheduled. All absences excused or unexcused will receive these communications when the number of absences reach the particular threshold. Also please note the following change, three (3) unexcused partial absences or five (5) tardies will equal one unexcused absence.
You can check your students' attendance any time on Infinite Campus.
For more information regarding the BVSD attendance policy updates please look here as well as information on BVSD’s Student Attendance and Engagement efforts.
Consistent attendance, particularly in early elementary years supports students in literacy and numeracy, which are both critical foundational building blocks for learning at the primary and secondary levels. Educators throughout the Boulder Valley School District place a priority on consistent attendance. Developing a habit of regular participation in school is an accomplishment; a skill reflecting a student’s readiness for learning.

Third-Fifth Grade Art Message
Dear Parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th-graders,
We created a monochromatic single-color collage, drawing, or painting in art class. We need to share our art with the dancers so that they can work on their creative magic. All third, fourth, and fifth graders can participate in this collaborative project and submit up to three artworks per student. If you want more information or your student is eager to submit work, it is due by Dec. 1, 2024, with a parent's permission required.

Counselor's Corner
Dear Families,
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. As we enter November, a month dedicated to gratitude, I want to share our focus on gratefulness and generosity in our classrooms.
This month, we are emphasizing the importance of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) skills that help our Cougars navigate their interactions positively. We are proud to see our students:
Know what to do when there is a conflict or disagreement
Be respectful to each other
Understand how to manage their anger
Do their best and adhere to the Cougar Code
At our school, which is a No Place for Hate community, we are committed to treating everyone with kindness and ensuring that all Cougars feel safe and supported.
Thank you for fostering these values at home. Together, we can create a nurturing environment where our students thrive.
We will be administering our school climate survey the week of November 12th to students in grades 2 - 5. Please see the parent information letter below:
