Transitions for current K-3 Students
Many professional considerations are taking into account when determining optimal learning environments for all students next year. At OLA, staff work diligently every day to build connections and foster relationships with ALL students, regardless of class, and this makes transitioning so much easier. Every child is a part of community and not just one homeroom. Students next year will continue to be part of grade level teams, loved and supported by all OLA staff.
Your child's homeroom is now visible in PowerSchool. What is important to know is that while your child will have a homeroom teacher placement, they will be a part of team, which will also include our Student Support team.
Students' Homeroom placement for the 2023-2024 school year will be available in the Powerschool Parent Portal. *This is only applicable to current students in K-3 at OLA (this does not apply to students coming from other schools or grade fours heading to SJPII).
To see your child's homeroom placement for next year:
Login into PowerSchool Parent Portal
Click on child's name tab at the top of the page
Click on "Additional Resources" in the left hand column
Click on "Next Year Placements"
Repeat for each child.
New teams will be connecting with your child on Monday, June 26th.
Thank-you for your continued trust in all we do!

Transitioning: Preparing For Next Year
Some upcoming transition plans to help our students prepare for next year:
- Grade fours have met their new Principal, Mr. Rob Stecyk and had a school visit
- Teachers, along with our Student Support Team have created class compositions based on professional criteria and optimal learning environments for each student
- Teachers and Student Support Team met in collaboration to prepare for new classes
- Monday, June 26(Kindergarten students will be visiting their new class another day in June) Students will visit their new teacher and classroom for a period
- Students with ISPs had and will continue to have transition meetings with the current team and next year's team. Many thanks to Ms.Keleva for her dedicated efforts in coordinating all these meetings.
- As always, please continue to communicate important information with our team, beginning with your child's teacher, so we can support your child. There are many dedicated people who wrap around your child every day to provide positive and caring faith and learning journeys for each student.
At OLA, staff work diligently every day to build connections and foster relationships with ALL students, regardless of class, they are all "our kids" and this makes transitioning so much easier. Thank-you for your continued trust in all we do!

Safety First! Teach and practice with your child their full name, address, and their phone number, discuss when to share these things. Make sure they know your name and the name of trusted adults. Teach how to cross the street safely and always cross with an adult. Summer is the time to learn about bike safety, water safety, sun safety, and vehicle safety on road trips. Practice talking about what an emergency is and how to call 911. Practice asking for help for things that are hot, sharp, dangerous or too high to reach. Whenever you are out and about, take time to discuss these age appropriate safety lessons. Visit safekids.org for more great info!
OT
Use those eyes! Have your little one help around the house to empty and sort the clean cutlery, fold tea towels or sort socks. Do puzzles. Play eye spy and matching games!
SLP
Go on a Nature Hunt and use higher level vocabulary words when you find objects. Your child does not have to use these words, the focus is on hearing and understanding the words.
Instead of saying “the rock is big” you could say “the rock is gigantic”
Instead of saying “we’re jumping” you could say “we’re leaping”
