2016 bond report outlines completed projects
We are excited to share that the district’s 2016 bond officially concluded in March. The bond projects, completed from 2018 to 2023, spanned district boundaries to deliver new, expanded and improved school facilities. View this report for photos and details about each project. Thank you, voters, for making these 2016 bond projects possible!
What’s next? As the student population increases and buildings age, there’s more work to be done. Please read the article below for information about SBLSD’s K-12 Expanded Student Capacity, School Improvements & Safety Upgrades bond measure that will be on the general election ballot in November.
Bond measure addressing significant needs to go on November election ballot
At the July 10 board meeting, school board members approved a resolution to place a K-12 Expanded Student Capacity, School Improvements & Safety Upgrades bond measure on the general election ballot in November.
After a year of extensive research and study, the district’s 31-member community advisory committee (Capital Facility Advisory Committee) recommended the bond package, which touches all points in the district, addressing the immediate needs of students and our buildings to meet the growing enrollment. View the projects included in the bond measure.
If approved by the voters, this measure will address:
Overcrowding and increased enrollment: Construction and expansion of school facilities. Nine out of 14 buildings are over 100% capacity. Four buildings are over 95% capacity.
The basics: Repairs, updates, improvements to aging roofs, plumbing and mechanical systems to maintain clean air and safe water.
Health, safety and security: Controlled classroom access, ADA accessibility, seismic upgrades, turf fields, traffic improvements, and more.
Post-graduation readiness: Additional space for career readiness programs, including expanded Career & Technical Education opportunities.
Long-term savings and keep school tax rate the same: The $732 million bond measure would maintain a $4.63/$1,000 school tax rate — the same average rate property owners have paid over the last five years.
The district will provide more facts and information about the upcoming bond over the next few months. Learn more now at sumnersd.org/vote.

Falcon Fablers writing club gets creative this summer
Victor Falls Elementary’s summer writing club, known as the Falcon Fablers, got their creative juices flowing this summer as they spent the past few weeks practicing and developing different writing styles.
The 30-student club shared their creations this week. Each Fabler wrote a fictional narrative, a non-fiction research piece, and a poem. The authors learned to be bold, creative, confident, and collaborative. Thank you to Mrs. Wehr for bringing the writing camp vision to life and to Mrs. Jung for volunteering her expertise.
Way to go, Falcon Fablers! Keep on writing and keep up the good work.
