Hello Families!
This is the start to your senior's last year of high school. This is a newsletter that I will be emailing throughout the year to keep you updated on everything senior! The goal is have your senior's year be one of fun, memory making and the least stressful as possible. Keep reading for information on graduation requirements, senior projects, volunteer opportunities, graduation items, scholarship information, field trips and much more!

There are three major requirements for graduation:

• Complete 24 Credit Hours
• Complete 10 hours of community service for each year enrolled in VSD (40 hours)
• Complete the Senior Project and Digital Portfolio

Senior projects are a requirement at VHS to fulfill ODE's graduation requirement for "personalized learning". This is a student led experience that includes a job shadow of at least 20 hours, research of interested career/career path, a written reflection, Google Slide presentation and a recorded speech. The senior project is uploaded to the student's Digital Portfolio. The Digital Portfolio includes career, interest, and skill exploration, research into after high school options and other career related items that are displayed for students to use for job, college and scholarship opportunities.

Homecoming week is a great time during the senior year! I am the senior class advisor for the year and I will be helping with homecoming and graduation. Seniors have already started planning for some of their homecoming events. If you would like to help, feel free to email me! Look below with the upcoming dates to see when some of the events are happening.

The senior trip will be during Spring Break.

Senior pictures, quotes, and grad ads are due the Monday after Thanksgiving (12/2). If you already have your picture, please email it as a jpg or png to Mrs. Kintz at jkintz@vernoniak12.org.

Now is the time to be talking with your student about their after high school plans. Research different options and see if you can either plan campus visits or find information online. This is also the time to help your student develop some adulting skills. Below are sections about different after school options with links to help you and your student get going as well as some links to adulting that you or seniors can use at anytime!

Scholarships are one way to fund college or trainings. Check out the curated list below. There are MORE to be found, sign up for one of the listed search engines. Local scholarships will be available through an application process in March.

The Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) should open by December 1st. Now is the time to create your FAFSA ID

Going to trade school/community college? Make sure to fill out your FAFSA and then submit your Oregon Opportunity Grant Application.

Office of Student Aid and Completion (OSAC) Scholarship deadline is APRIL 1st. Take the time to fill out your applications now.
