Cold Spring Elementary Update
From The Principal's Desk
Happy Friday!
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority at ROCORI Public Schools. We want to keep you informed about the safety procedures we have in place to protect your child in the event of an emergency situation. This week, for example, we practiced a fire drill. These are low stress drills, but remind us all of where to go to be safe.
One such procedure is the "Run, Hide, Fight" protocol. We believe it's important for families to understand this plan and to support conversations with your child about safety in an age-appropriate way. Our first safety drill will be held Friday, September 27 in your child's classroom.
The "Run, Hide, Fight" protocol is a nationally recognized approach used to respond to active threats. Although we hope we never have to use these protocols, it's crucial for your child and our staff to be prepared in the unlikely event of an emergency. Practicing this procedure can help everyone reacy quickly and appropriately. Here is some more information for you:
How are we preparing your child?
- We conduct age-appropriate drills to familiarize students with the protocol in a way that doesn't cause fear or panic.
- Your child's teacher explains the drills in a calm and reassuring manner.
- Counselors are available for any child who may feel anxious after these discussions or drills.
What can you do?
- Please talk to your child about the importance of school safety. Encourage them to listen to their teachers and follow instructions during drills.
- Remind your child the goal of the drills is to make sure everyone is safe, just like a fire drill.
If you have any concerns or questions about how we are implementing these protocols, feel free to contact us. Thank you for your support and understanding as we work together to create a safe learning environment for all students!
