Eckville Elementary News - Parents
October 2024
This is the monthly Principal's message and newsletter. It is a way to keep parents engaged and informed with what is happening at Eckville Elementary. It is sent out each month via email and is available on our website.
Principal's Message
Thank you to everyone for completing your demographic form updates this last month. This includes consent for Physical Education activities, an acceptable use agreement for technology access, consent for walking field trips and most importantly, updated emergency contact information.
On the flip side, I have taken one of my kids in to get wisdom teeth removed, another to get their first pair of glasses, fixed one flat tire, consumed 2 boxes of chocolate, enjoyed a couple lunches from Boxcar, and made an awesome score of LEGO at a community garage sale! It's been a great month!!

School Visitors - Check In at Main Office
Just a reminder to everyone that all school visitors need to check in at the main office. When students are being picked up early, please come to the office and let us know, then we can call or walk down to the classroom. This helps limit classroom disruptions and lets us ensure we know who are always in the building as visitors, in case of emergency.
Student Medications
Please ensure all student medications are accompanied by a district required parent consent form. This includes everything from inhalers and epi-pens to tylenol, antibiotics and advil. The consent forms are available at the office and are required for any and all student medications in the school.
Parent Teacher Interviews - Thursday, October 10
Look for an email notification this week, on Thursday, October 3, to book your Parent Teacher Interviews for the following week. Interviews will be held after school between 3:30 and 7:00 PM.
Newsletter Information
All our EE Parent Newsletter are posted on our website under the PARENTS tab. It is emailed to you as well but might end up in your spam/junk folder. We have a new mass email program called BRIGHT ARROW. If you don't receive our newsletter, check these folders and mark us as 'not junk/spam'.
New Student Safety Procedures - Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Thank you for making note of the changes to help promote student safety for all! Buses now operate out front of the school and parent pick up and drop off is on the west side of the bus barn.
One point of clarification, hopefully shown on the image below, is that overflow parking should be along the street beside the barricades (jerseys) where the road is not painted yellow. This is rather than along the bus barn as our main goal is to NOT have students walking through a parking lot.
If parked along the street, we would ask you to still exit around behind the bus barns or wait until all the buses have left the front of the school.
HOT LUNCHES ARE COMING!
Hot Lunches are available to order in your Parent Portal. If you require support in accessing your
Parent Portal, please contact the school office.

Classroom Champions
Classroom Champions is a social-emotional learning program designed to support curricular goals with the support of an Olympic athlete, specially connected to our school. We are proud to have been accepted into this program and school staff will be learning more on October 11. We look forward to meeting our Classroom Champion, Lucas VanBerkel!
Parent Resources
Our School Resource Officer, Dave Lahucik, shared this resource that promotes awareness around online safety for Canadian children. Click above and below to access their website and click on the image to link to the shared resource.

*Safety Note from SRO Lahucik - please remind your kids to activate the crossing lights before they enter the roadway to cross at the 4 way. He has seen a lot of kids crossing and not doing so, and it's just an extra precaution that helps us make sure everyone gets to school safely each and every day.
In November Samantha Chick, our School Social Worker, will be coordinating sessions offered to classes on No Secrets, a program for children in Grade K-6. Grades K-4 will learn about boundaries, privacy and personal safety. For Grades 5-6, iRespect MYSELF is a prevention program focused on empowering students to grow their self-esteem and respect for themselves. iRespect MYSELF focuses on building a foundation of understanding and respect for oneself and the people around them.
