Notes from Dr. Mullenschlader
Lent: Giving something up in Lent has become a tradition within the Church for us to practice asceticism, which is abstaining from something for the purpose of faith. For us, that usually means giving up Chocolate, and coffee, eating between meals, and particularly abstaining from meat every Friday during Lent. Even during the regular Church year, we are called to sacrifice something each Friday, traditionally it has been meat. Getting our children to understand this idea of giving something up can be challenging and the Church uses the age of 14 as the minimum age for abstaining from meat. As parents though, we can practice asceticism or sacrifice with our children during Lent simply by doing something as a whole family. Maybe it's giving up screen time together each day or week, maybe it's giving up watching television certain days or during Lent, maybe its only eating at the dinner table as the whole family, or maybe is only watching wholesome content as a family, regardless its an opportunity to take that thing that we are giving up and give it back to God as a small sacrifice. Also, there is a great opportunity of taking the time that we might be giving up doing something else and fill it with family prayer or family storytime. You may already do that, if so, that's awesome! Just an idea! Happy Lenting!
*Parish Confessions during Lent on Wednesdays 5-6, Fridays from 7:30 am-8:00 am, and
Saturdays 4-5.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Join the St. Charles Borromeo community Friday, March 17th after school release, and before the Fish Fry, for the Second Annual St. Charles, St. Patrick’s Parade, down Main Street! This fun, family-friendly event celebrates Irish Heritage and the Patron Saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick.
Plan: Wear attire that supports Ireland, Saint Patrick, or St. Charles Borromeo!
Bring any candy or trinkets you would want to hand to patrons watching the parade. No political endorsements, please.
All children must be accompanied by an adult. If you cannot participate, but want your child to participate, please plan with another family to have your child attend with them.
There may be some porta-potties at the Boathouse, but likely nothing along the route. Plan accordingly.
Parade Start: Groups can gather after 2:30 and set up at the Lewis and Clark Boathouse parking lot (1050 S. Riverside Drive). Parade will depart at 4 p.m.
The Route: The parade will take a new route this year, traveling from the Boathouse parking lot to Main Street, down Main Street to Jefferson Street and will then turn right on Jefferson.
Notes: Parade is hosted by City St. Charles, MO and Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) St. Charles Division in cooperation with businesses on Main Street
