On Monday, October 21, Grade 11 students enrolled in English 20 will have a presentation from the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre on a workshop called Responding with Respect. The program focuses on responding respectfully to healthy and unhealthy relationships and relationship breakdowns. On Wednesday, October 23, Grade 11 students enrolled in Social 20 will have a presentation from the RCMP and Safe Communities of Central Alberta on distracted and impaired driving. An education session with videos will be presented by the RCMP and will be followed by a physical demonstration of the impacts of alcohol impairment through the use of “impaired goggles” which impair students' visual perception. Did you know that 1 in 3 Canadians will experience some form of child abuse before the age of 18? This staggering statistic is a reminder of why raising awareness and sparking conversation is crucial. October is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Center's #GoBlueAB initiative is part of an effort to shed light on this important issue. On Thursday, October 24th, we encourage students and staff to wear blue in solidarity with children across our communities who need our support.
