Lost and Found Items
As we wrap up the school year, our lost and found is starting to look like a mini thrift store! If your child is missing a jacket, lunchbox, or even that one shoe they've been hopping around without, now's the time to reclaim it. All unclaimed treasures will be discarded on June 13th, so please swing by the lunchroom and see if anything belongs to your family before it disappears forever. Who knows? You might even find that long-lost umbrella or favorite sweater! Thanks for helping us clear out the mountain of misplaced items and avoid a school-wide game of "Whose Sock is This?"
Superintendent Newsletter
See the attached link for this month's BAS Superintendent Newsletter. Have a productive final two weeks of the school year and I hope that everyone has a great summer! Go Dogs!
END OF YEAR MEDICATION PICK-UP
End of Year Medication Pick-Up
Student medication(s) must be picked up by dismissal time on June 12th.
Controlled medication(s) must be picked up by a parent/guardian on file.
Any medication not picked up will be discarded.
DoorDash
Please do not have students doordash things to the main office. Lunch is free to all students. If something is DoorDashed, it will be discarded. If a parent wants to bring their student food or drink, please know that we will get that to the student during their lunch. Any food or drink delivered outside of lunch time by parents will be held until the end of the day. Thank you so much for your help with this. It can create a large disruption to our students education process.
Scranton Honors Night
The Scranton Honors Night will be June 6th. Over the next month invitations for this night will be sent out via email. This is for our students who's GPA is 3.5 or higher for all 3 quarters so far this year. This event will be held in the gym at Scranton.
Michigan Science Olympiad
The Michigan Science Olympiad State competition was held May 4, 2024 at Western Michigan University. There were 48 middle school teams and 48 high school teams. Scranton placed 20th overall in the state, and Brighton High School was 21st overall. Students on our Scranton team received medals in two events, and Brighton High School received medals for one event.
Dynamic Planet is one of the testing events. Students learn about the large-scale processes affecting the structure of Earth's crust. This includes structures of the Earth's interior, plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes. At a competition a team of two students take an exam, testing their knowledge. The Scranton students on this event at States were Averie MacDonald and Gabe Szornyi, and they placed 7th in the State!
The Pentathlon was a trial event with four students. It is like a relay race where they each had to do a physical task, then answer a science question. Our Scranton Pentathlon team was composed of Jaxson Bradley, Averie MacDonald, Gabe Szornyi, and Lily Tierney and they placed 6th in the State!
For Brighton High School, there is a building event called Scrambler where a team of two students have to build a car that meets certain construction parameters that can travel from 8 meters to 12 meters, students do not know the distance until they arrive at the competition. There is a raw egg attached to the front of the car, and a wall is placed at the target distance. The car has to come as close to the wall as possible without breaking the egg. The Brighton High School students on this event were Nate Thie and Andrea Bachelor, with a lot of help and support from teammate Zach Wyderko, and they were 1st in the State!

CALLING ALL BUS DRIVERS!!!
The BAS Pack of Dogs are excited to announce our inaugural Pack Parade! We will be hosting a 1 mile walk that will start at the Mill Pond and end at BHS with food trucks, yard games, and raffle baskets. Participants in the walk can use the link and select “become a fundraiser” to sign up and create a fundraising team/page that can be shared on your social media. This way you can tell your family and friends about the amazing pups you’re pledging to walk for, and they can also help contribute to your page. There will be prizes for the top fundraising teams from each Brighton School! We hope to see everyone there!
Any questions or Pack Parade sponsorship inquiries please reach out to Kaitlyn Lipinski or Rachaelle Baxter

Math 8 Test Out for Current 7th Graders
For most of our 8th graders, the most developmentally appropriate placement is Math 8. A select number of students are invited to take a test-out opportunity and be placed into the high school level Algebra I. Remember, these students who test out and are placed in Algebra I are missing one full year of math concepts.
To qualify for an invitation to take the Math 8 test our opportunity the following need to be met:
Must have scored Advanced or Proficient on the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-Step)
Must have scored in the 80th Percentile or higher on the nationally normed NWEA (Measure Academic Progress) Math Assessment.
Invitation letters have been sent out to parents and students. Please remember the students who test out of Math 8 are skipping a full year of math concepts and curriculum. If your student has not been invited, it does not mean they are behind or deficient in the math curriculum.

Coaches are not employees of the school, nor do they work in our schools, and your coaching is NEVER reported to the school. Coaching is a FREE, CONFIDENTIAL resource for parents that gives you the tools to help your child thrive.
For the next year, parents can meet with their own individual coaches from the privacy of their own homes for up to thirty minutes each week.

The Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium to serve students in temporary living situations that provides financial support for educational needs, referral for housing, clothing, and other needs, general support, and technical assistance. To ensure compliance with federal law, all school staff must help identify students living in the following situations: emergency shelters/transitional housing, motels/hotels, car, parks or public spaces, shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic hardship or living temporarily with non-parent or guardian. Attention Student Athletes
Fall Sports practices begin on August 7th at BHS with events starting up on 8/17/23. Scranton Middle School Fall Sports (Boys & Girls Cross Country & Girls Volleyball) begin on 8/21/23 & 8/28/23 respectively.
With Fall sports starting around the corner we wanted to make you aware of an important change at the HighSchool level for game ticket prices and the purchasing of game tickets.
The K.L.A.A. voted to increase high school game ticket prices to $6.00. This is the first increase in league ticket prices for any league that Brighton has been a part of for over the last 30 years.
Additionally, as you are seeing across the nation, the league will move immediately to electronic tickets for High School events. Many of you who have had students participating over the last few years know that this format has been used by other KLAA schools, as well as those outside the league, and that all M.H.S.A.A. events are now electronic ticketing only. Electronic tickets allow for a safer transfer of money and there is a convenience factor for patrons at our events.
The process of purchasing electronic tickets has evolved in the last few years as well as the public's understanding and use of these platforms whether you are attending school sports, club sports, college and pro sports, concerts or any other ticketed events. We have used GoFan ticketing for the state tournaments we have hosted and the process overall has been very smooth as a whole.
We will have the ability at the gate to accept debit/cc cards now at our events but for your experience the easiest way to purchase and redeem your tickets will be to do so in advance of approaching the ticket booth or table and having them ready to show our ticket takers upon entering. Likewise you will now see signage at all BHS athletic events with the QR codes just as you have seen them at other schools in recent years and MHSAA tournament contests.
Ticket prices for Scranton Athletic events will remain at $3.00 for adults & $1.00 for students and will for this coming year remain as cash sales.
Also, Student, Individual and Family pass prices for BAS Athletic events will remain the same price and will be offered at both BHS & SMS registrations as they always have been.
Go Fan's website is GoFan.co and our page for home and away events at GoFan.co is: https://gofan.co/app/school/MI9899
Also, here are some other helpful links if this is your 1st exposure to electronic ticketing or GoFan
Again, I hope this finds you and yours all doing well as we get ready to fire up another great year at BAS & Bulldog Athletics!
Make it a great and safe rest of your summer and as always....Go Dogs!
Medications
If your child will need medications available in the Scranton Main Office, please bring them in before the first day of the school year. Please note that all medications, including over-the-counter medications, must be accompanied by our medical form which includes a physician authorization for the medication to be administered at school.
