Notes From Dr. Burnham
*Our District METCO Director, Mr. Kurtis Martin, will be leaving RPS and transitioning to the Boston Public Schools in their βOperations Leaderβ role. This role will come with a significant increase in job scope and salary. It is with deep gratitude that we thank Kurtis for his leadership service, and impact on the METCO Program. RPS has decided to name two of our current METCO SACs as co-interim METCO Directors for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year: Elementary Interim Co-Director - Our very own Cindy Marte, and Secondary Interim Co-Director - Jerika Santiago. These leaders will remain in their current METCO SAC roles and receive a stipend for their additional responsibilities as co-interim METCO Directors. The co-interim director role represents the best path for investing in our own leaders and minimizing impact on our students. RPS will move forward with a process to hire a permanent METCO Director in the spring of 2025. Congratulations, Cindy!
Attendance Reminders:
If your child is going to be absent or tardy for any reason, please make sure to notify the school before 8:30AM. You may call the absentee line at 781-944-2335 or email BMeabsences@reading.k12.ma.us. Please give your child's name, teacher, reason for absence and expected date/time of return. If we do not hear from you, you will receive a text, a phone call and an email from our blackboard connect system--as the safety of our students is of the utmost importance, we ask that you respond in a timely manner. Last year, we celebrated extremely high attendance and encourage the importance of getting to school each day. With your support, we have no doubt that it will be another great year!
Portal Reminders:
Portal Forms are now available to be updated and submitted. ALL parents/caregivers should submit a form for EACH child. Please take the time to make sure that all information is accurate so that our Student Information System is up-to-date at all times. Click on FORMS from the top menu in PlusPortals (plusportals.com/readingpublicschools) and you will see the three forms that need to be completed. We are asking that ALL families submit these forms no later than September 20th. New families, if you have not activated your portal, you will need to do so to complete the forms.
*A reminder that if your student(s) attend extended day in the morning, there is no reason to order ahead. Students are able to eat breakfast while there.

BIRCH MEADOW PTO NEWS
New Recess/PE Equipment
Recently, the PTO was able to purchase some badly-needed recess equipment. Mr. McCracken gave us his 'wish list' and with the help of Play it Again Sports, N. Reading, we were able to purchase multi-sized basketballs, mini footballs, playground/kick balls, soccer balls, and hula hoops! See photo to see what was presented last Monday to enjoy!
Calareso's Fall Fundraiser is BACK!
We are so thrilled to participate in Calareso's gift certificate sale again this year. Gift certificates will be available between Sept 30 - Oct 18th and will be distributed in backpacks or for pickup in the main office in late October (specific date TBA).
We love this fundraiser because:
1. 25% of the purchase goes right back to Birch Meadow!
2. They NEVER expire!
3. We align this fundraiser with the holiday season. Think: pumpkins and mums for the porch, pies for Thanksgiving, trees for Christmas - the certificates can be used for ANYTHING sold at Calareso's.
GC's can be purchased via our PTO Square Site and through the flyers in your students backpacks starting next week :)
Have a great week!
