Ride 360 launches in March
If you have an elementary student who rides the school bus, you probably noticed the bus cards attached to their backpack this year. It's all part of our new bus safety program called Ride 360. We've been testing parts of the new system and practicing together so that we are sure of this system and how effective it can be.
We are letting our families know that the program will officially launch Monday, March 4th. It will be available to all K-12 students and signing up for the program is optional. Families who choose to opt-in and use Ride 360 will receive a rider card and will need to download the app. The card allows families to track their child getting on and off the bus and provides important information for bus drivers about the students. There's also an app that tracks individual bus routes and provides live updates about delays or other important information.
Ride 360 is our commitment to improving student safety and access to real-time information about your most precious cargo!
What is Ride 360?
It's a software program that allows our bus drivers to monitor students and ensure they're getting on and off at the right stops. If families opt-in, students will be given a plastic card, which they swipe on a tablet when getting on and off the bus. It also gives basic information to bus drivers like first name, grade level, school, and bus route. Starting Monday, March 4th, families can begin opting-in by contacting their child's school.
Why is the School District Using Ride 360?
It's all about safety! Monitoring students using paper and clipboards simply isn't as effective. When students use the Safe Rider Card to swipe on and off the bus, our drivers know immediately if a student is on the right bus and where they need to be dropped off. Drivers are alerted if a child boards the wrong bus or gets off at the wrong stop.
Will All Students Use Ride 360?
The program is available for every K-12 student in our school district. We expect that most participants will be our elementary students.
Do I have to Use Ride 360?
Nope! It's completely optional. While our transportation team highly recommends that all elementary students use the program to ensure improved safety, it's up to each family to decide for themselves if they want to use the program. Families can also just download the app to track bus routes and not have their child utilize the Safe Rider Card.
What if my Child Forgets Their Card?
We anticipate this happening at times. School staff will issue a temporary paper card and then work with families to have a new plastic card created. Safe Rider cards will be placed in a protective plastic pouch on a lanyard. Kindergarten students will get yellow lanyards, and all other students will have blue. We recommend these cards be tied to your child's backpack, so they have it with them at all times.
Is my Child's Information Protected?
Yes! Only bus drivers and approved school district staff and family members can see a child's information or track them electronically.
