Administrative Assertions
As April means ‘opening’ and is a time for forecasting, we are considering programming for next year. Students will be completing next year’s course selections in the coming weeks. Parents, please have conversations with your students about courses that they might want to take next year. Also, stay tuned for information about an upcoming ECCHS open house on April 24.
At ÉCCHS, while we focus on sprints of learning, we consider the importance of the big picture to reveal the demonstration of long-term skill development over the course of a semester. This connects to the significance of regular attendance to impact the attainment of a concept. Our students continue to grow and be successful in their ability to stick to it and embrace a learning challenge. We appreciate you taking the time to connect with teachers during our parent/teacher conferences that were held on March 13. Your partnership and engagement in the learning process is essential for student success.
Grade 12 students, the Awards Application is now available on our school website under the ‘Students’ Section. We offer many awards so please take the time to apply.
Our band and choir students are heading into festival season with the local Camrose Music Festival occurring in April. We wish you the best and want you to enjoy these moments of performance. Badminton athletes have hit the court full force for a busy April.
Thank you to the many staff who took students on the International Travel trip over spring break. A special thank you to Mme. Babin and Mr. Bailey for leading the group. It is wonderful that students were given an opportunity to learn about arts, culture, and history in such a memorable way.
Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Up and In Paris and London
ÉCCHS students embarked on an exhilarating journey to two iconic European cities: London and Paris in addition to pilgrimages to the Vimy and Normandy regions. Led by their six passionate teachers, the diverse group of students from different backgrounds and interests eagerly anticipate the adventure ahead.
The trip kicked off in London, where the class was immediately captivated by the city's rich history and vibrant culture. From the majestic Buckingham Palace to the awe-inspiring Tower Bridge, students immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of this bustling metropolis. Guided tours through renowned landmarks such as the Imperial War Museum and the Churchill Bunkers provided invaluable insights into centuries of British heritage.
The journey continued as the class crossed under the English Channel with stops in Lille, Vimy, and Normandy where the class got the opportunity to drip their toes in the waters of Juno Beach, explore the monuments and trenches of Vimy Ridge, reflect at Beaumont-Hamel, and immerse themselves in the Wellington Quarries.
The true magic of the tour started in the City of Light, Paris. Amidst the romantic backdrop of the Eiffel Tower and the enchanting streets of Montmartre, friendships deepened, and lifelong memories were forged. Guided by knowledgeable locals, the students explored the Louvre Museum, marveled at the grandeur of Notre-Dame Cathedral, savored delectable pastries in quaint Parisian cafes, experienced the renowned Latin Quarter and capped off the trip with a cruise down the Seine River.
As the trip drew to a close, the class reflected on their transformative experiences and newfound appreciation for global perspectives. Bonds strengthened through shared adventures and cultural immersion endure, promising to shape their futures in profound ways.
A big "Thank you" to all the work staff members did to plan and facilitate this amazing adventure and to the 46 students who make this trip an absolute pleasure to be a part of.

Basketball
Our grade 9 boys had a fantastic season. They only lost 3 games all year and none of the losses were more than 5 points. They competed in a number of big city tournaments in which they absolutely held their own. To cap their season off they won the junior high regional championship defeating Forestburg in the final.
Not to be outdone by our grade 9 boys team, our grade 9 girls team also finished their season off with a regional championship. The girls had a bit more of an up and down season. They entered their regional championship as the 3rd ranked west team and started the tournament off with a comeback upset win over the 2nd ranked Killam team. They then faced Bashaw, the number one ranked team, and from the opening tipoff they led the whole game. In the final they faced some of their old teammates and friends from Charlie Killam and had one of their best games of their entire season to cap off their championship run.
On the same day both our grade 9 teams won their championships, our junior boys and girls were playing in their championship tournaments. Our girls were the third ranked team and beat the number two ranked Stettler team, who they had lost to just a few weeks earlier. They then faced a strong HJ Cody team from Sylvan Lake and came up just a bit short of winning the championship, bringing home silver.
Our junior boys team had a great championship run. After winning their semi final they faced the number one ranked team and host of the tournament, Wetaskiwin. They were down by almost 10 points with less than 2 mins to go, the boys battled hard, made some really clutch free throws and ended up winning it all.
Both senior teams would have liked to have played a bit further into March, but came up a bit short in their championship run. Similar to our grade 9 girls, our senior girls had an up and down season. Highlights would include a second place finish at the SPA Spruce Grove tournament. They were the only central zone team to beat the number 4 ranked HJ Cody girls team in league play. Unfortunately they came up just a bit short in their first playoff game against Stettler. Our senior boys played some of their best basketball at the end of the season. They hosted a good Stettler team in their first playoff game and even with a few injuries they were still able to win by double digits. They then faced a tough Wetaskiwin team that they lost by 30 points just a couple of weeks prior to their playoff game. Our boys gave them a real fight, the game was within 3 points late in the 4th quarter. They came up just a bit short, but certainly nothing to hang their heads about.
Badminton
Our grade 9 and high school badminton teams have been selected and the teams are preparing for their tournaments in April. Our single and mixed teams have practices after school on Monday and Wednesday while all doubles teams practice Tuesday and Thursday after school. The grade 9 divisional tournament is April 11th hosted at ÉCCHS, ÉCKS, and the Field House while the regional tournament is April 18th hosted at the same venues.
Our city/county high school badminton meet is on April 10th and our Area meet is on April 17th. Both those meets are hosted at ÉCCHS. Zones this year is on April 26 hosted in Lacombe with provincials the following weekend, May 3 and 4 in Edmonton.
Team Handball
Our boys handball team has started up with practices every Tuesday and Thursday after school. They will hopefully play some exhibition games in April.
Track and Field
Even though we still have snow on the ground, the track and field season isn’t that far off. There will be a sign up and information meeting in early April with practices starting in mid to late April.
Student Council Update
The Student Council hosted a fun event in celebration of St. Patrick's day. We handed out delicious cookies from the cafeteria as well as juice. The main event was an Irish jig competition, where we had some enthusiastic dancers. We also sent out a student survey in March, to collect feedback on our activities.
In April, we are planning our outdoor school yard clean up with a twist. There will also be a scavenger hunt. Don't forget Earth day is April 22.
Stay tuned for more information about elections for the 2024-2025 student council, coming in May. We are also looking forward to our annual Show and Shine event in May to wrap up another amazing year at ÉCCHS!
School Parent Council
Our next School (Parent) Council meeting is on Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. in the Learning Commons.
On Wednesday, April 10 the BRSD Wellness team is hosting a Community Grief Presentation at 7 p.m. at ÉCCHS in the Learning Commons. All BRSD school families are welcome to attend.
