Principal Update

As you know, Monday is more than a simple day off for students, but a day to recognize and celebrate the leadership and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. At Mills, we take intentional opportunities to recognize, celebrate, and discuss Dr. King this week and throughout the month of February during Black History Month.

All Mills students are invited to participate in the science fair this year, but participation is not mandatory. Projects are due on January 23rd (this is a date change!) and can be done individually or in groups.

Projects will be presented to classes on January 23 and all projects will move on to school-wide judging on January 24th to determine which projects move on to the regional science fair.

Please reach out to your child's teacher for more specific details regarding Science Fair for your child's grade level! Your teacher will provide you with a detailed packet of information about Science Fair.

Our counselors presented and facilitated a conversation with families last Wednesday on student contributions at home and at school. If you missed it, we have linked the slides above. Due to the positive feedback, Ms. Edwards and Ms. Whatley will be holding a second presentation this Spring. Date and time coming soon!

On Tuesday, Jan 17, our campus will conduct a Lockdown and Evacuation drill. School safety drills play an essential role in developing the skills that students and staff need to protect themselves during an emergency. Students and staff are familiar with all of the drills required to be practiced throughout the school year.

In other areas of school safety, the PTA Safety Committee has created a flyer to remind our families about safety during arrival and dismissal times. Thank you for doing your part to ensure that every Mountain Lion is safe here at Mills!

We are bringing back the Mills Sweetheart Dance! This PTA sponsored event will take place on Friday, Feb 10th in the Mills cafeteria. Space is limited. More information will be shared this week with classroom teachers and will also be posted to the Mills PTA Families & Staff Facebook page.
