Babysitting Clinic
Start your own business!
Gage County 4-H has partnered with Beatrice Community Hospital & Health Center and NGage to offer a one-day Babysitting Clinic to train the next generation of childcare providers!
May 31, 2023 | SCC Beatrice, Academic Excellence Center | 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Ages: 10 & Older
Cost: $50 per participant (includes lunch, curriculum materials, supplies and Babysitting Kit)
Participants will work through curriculum, learn about safety, basic childcare, child development, entertaining children, nutrition, and starting a babysitting business. Basic First Aid and CPR (not certification) will be taught.

Camper registrations are due no later than May 21 at 8:00 p.m.

Anytime Learning Workshops

Don't forget to pick up the Anytime Learning Projects you signed up for. We will have them available until June 1st. Please take note of the pick up dates in the Anytime Learning listing.
4-H Enrollment Due June 15th
Please make sure to include or update your child's t-shirt size! This is the sizing guide we use to order the Exmark t-shirts for county fair! It is not a required field so can often be missed.
Updated help guides can be found on our website.
Enrollment fee is $12 for each 4-H youth to be paid online or in the office. There is no fee for Clover Kids or adults. We will not be accepting enrollments until we have received payment.
Gage County 4-H Clover Kids
Clover Kids have special opportunities to participate during the Gage County Fair by exhibiting Clover Kids static exhibits and the new Clover Kid Livestock Show. To be eligible to participate, Clover Kids need to enroll through our 4HOnline system at v2.4honline.com
Clover Kids participating in the Clover Kid Livestock Show need to be enrolled in 4-H.

Food Science Summer Camps
- If you are a high school or middle school student eager to explore the fascinating world of food science you will not want to miss attending our camps this summer!
- Camps, which are hosted by the Food Science and Technology Department at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, were designed with you in mind. Through hands-on activities, facility tours, and the development of food products, our activities will spark your interest in the science behind the foods you consume every day. Also, during camps you will have a chance to get to know our facilities, interact with experienced food scientists, engage with faculty and students, and immerse yourself in a journey of discovery.
- You can choose from a range of camps: one-day, three-day, or week-long experiences. Each camp offers a unique opportunity to explore the diverse aspects of a specific food or food group, from pizza to cookies and dairy products! You will not want to miss this opportunity to expand your knowledge while exploring the world of food science.

NOTES TO LIVESTOCK & HORSE MEMBERS
2024 Gage County Fair Show Shirt
Nebraska Farm Bureau is sponsoring a free show shirt for our 4-H & FFA kids! Order yours online by June 15th at go.unl.edu/24gageshowshirt or scan QR code to order. Must place a separate order for each free shirt. Shirts from previous years still allowed. There will be a very limited amount of shirts available for purchase during the County Fair. Pick up the week of July 19th at the Extension Office.

State Fair Livestock Update
State Fair Livestock- Entry Info
All 4-H/FFA breeding livestock, market livestock and feeder calves are required to submit a DNA envelope to be eligible to exhibit at the Nebraska State Fair. DNA envelopes for the Nebraska State Fair are due on June 15 to the Extension Office. (New Envelopes for 2024, any old envelopes will NOT work)
DNA nominations will all be $7.00 per animal. With this update, animals will be eligible for both breeding and market. Any nomination submitted through Show Stock Manager needs to have DNA submitted. https://showstockmgr.com/
Breeding livestock: Registration papers must now show the exhibitor’s name or a co-owner who is an immediate member of the exhibitor’s family and is listed with the online nomination in show stock manager.
Aksarben Stock Show- Online Nomination
NEW for 2024: 4-H/FFA Families who want to be nominated for both Nebraska State Fair will only need to submit one DNA Envelope but will now have to submit the online nomination in two different places.
Submit the DNA: Bring to the Extension Office (If you are submitting for both State Fair & Aksarben)

YQCA
4-H (ages 8-18) and FFA (under age 19) exhibitors as of Jan. 1st of the current year who exhibit beef, goat, sheep, swine, rabbit & poultry are REQUIRED to complete YQCA training by June 15, to be eligible to participate at the Gage County Fair and Nebraska State Fair. (Clover Kids are do NOT need to complete YQCA training).
Instructor-Led training is available for $3.00 per youth at Saline County, May 23rd at 9:30am.
Online YQCA training is available for $12.00 per youth. Please make a special note to your 4-H age (as of Jan. 1) when selecting a course to complete.
*If you have any problems with the online website (logging in, online testing, etc.), you have to contact the help desk on the website. We have no admin capabilities to help if you have issues.
**Make sure you complete both the pre and post-survey before YQCA will let you print off your YQCA certificate.
Once you download your YQCA certificate you can either print it and bring it to the Extension Office or email it to Rachel at rbuehler2@unl.edu

2024 UNL Livestock Judging Camp
2024 UNL Livestock Judging Camp is to be held June 5-7. Attached is the camp info/registration. All question should be directed to Maddie Schroeder at mschroeder30@huskers.unl.edu
You can also find info/entry information online at go.unl.edu/judging-camp. Registration deadline is May 20th so all mailed entries need to be postmarked by that date.

Governor's Ag Excellence Award
- The Nebraska 4-H Foundation is excited to continue our partnership with Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA). Through our partnership with NIFA, we are able to offer the Governor’s Agricultural Excellence award grants again in 2024. NIFA has committed funding to support up to 25 grants state-wide.
- Nebraska 4-H Foundation’s Governor’s Agricultural Excellence Awards is a prestigious award designed to recognize 4-H clubs for their efforts to serve their communities. This grant is intended to provide funding for 4-H Clubs to complete projects that will have a lasting impact on their communities. Projects aim to be intentional and impactful, growing club members as leaders and fulfilling a need in their community.
- Successful applicants will be awarded a $500 grant issued to the club’s treasury to be used as described in the award application.
- At the conclusion of the project, clubs will submit a report detailing the outcomes of the intended project.
