Principal's Message
PRMS Parents,
Nominations for Parent Representatives for the PRMS School Improvement Council (SIC) are now open. PRMS School Improvement Council (SIC) is an advisory council to the principal that is focused on school improvement issues. It is made up of representatives of parents, teachers, and community members. The principal serves as an ex-officio member. The SIC meets at least monthly during the school year. PRMS parent representatives are nominated and elected by their fellow PRMS parents. Any parent/guardian of at least one child enrolled at our school is eligible to place his/her own name or the name of another parent in the nomination. Parent representatives are elected to a term of two years. If a parent has a child enrolled in the 8th grade at PRMS for the current school year and will not have any at enrolled the following year, that parent is elected to a term of one year only. A representative of the SIC will contact all individuals whose names are submitted into nomination prior to the election to confirm acceptance of the nomination. Nominees will be invited to submit a brief statement about themselves and why they want to serve on the SIC. All statements received will be printed on the opposite side of the ballot so that voters will have a chance to get to know each of the candidates. You can submit your nomination to the SIC by emailing Mrs. Holloman at kholloman@lex2.org or through this Google form. Nomination forms must be received no later than October 7, 2024.

MAP Growth Reports
MAP Growth Family Reports went home with your child this week. This report summarizes how your child is performing academically, as measured by the most recent MAP Growth test your child has taken.
Your child's MAP Growth results are represented as RIT scores. RIT scores have the same meaning across grade levels. This stable scale allows teachers to accurately measure each student's academic growth throughout the school year and over time.
For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit or watch the video below!

Counselor's Corner
October is National Bullying Prevention Month! Parents can assist by talking with your children about bullying and how to be an upstander and not a bystander. Please find helpful resources about having these discussions at Bystander Revolution! Also, this infographic has been shared with all students in the classroom and can also be helpful in talking with your child. If you need additional resources and support, please reach out to our School Counselor, Mrs. Beckham at jbeckham@lex2.org or our School Social Worker, Mrs. Dowdy at kdowdy@lex2.org.

Halloween Family Fun
Our high schools put on free Halloween events each year, and community families are invited to the fun! Brookland-Cayce High School is having its Trunk or Treat from 5-7 p.m. October 22 in front of the school, and Airport High School will have its Truck or Treat Lane from 6-8 p.m. October 28. Costumes are encouraged. Both events have become favorite annual traditions, so be sure to mark your calendars!
Health Promotion Specialists- School Dental Prevention Program
Poor oral health has been related to decreased school performance, poor relationships, and less success later in life. The good news is that a dental public health program can improve oral health! By completing a consent form you have the opportunity to protect your child from thenumber one chronic disease of children- tooth decay/cavities. Your child will receive preventive services at school and a letter will be sent home to you indicating the services provided and the assessment results.
