Thank you!
Thank you to the Mason family and Cenkus family for cleaning up and maintaining our woods trails. From Mrs. Ames: "The little loop back there is so easy to access thanks to their hard work. Preschool is grateful."

September Four Winds - Insect Life Cycles
This year in Four Winds our PK - 4th grade students will be studying Cycles in Nature. We are kicking off September with our first lesson, Insect Life Cycles. Our students have been observing a variety of live insect specimens, learning about the parts of an insect and the process of metamorphosis, and perhaps the most exciting part....getting outside to observe and collect insects themselves!
One of my favorite moments working with Mr Crutchfield's class this month was when a student caught an inchworm and we began wondering "Is an inchworm just a type of worm? Is it a caterpillar?". With a quick search we discovered that the inchworm is a larval stage and it will pupate and turn into a moth! Our minds were blown! We just thought an inchworm was an inchworm! Who knew?!
We are still looking for volunteers! We are happy to accept volunteers at any grade level but are particularly in need of volunteers for Pre-K, Ms. Martin, Mrs. Glidewell, Mrs Fagan, and Mrs Waschman's classrooms. It only requires 1-3 hours per month and is a very flexible program that is very rewarding to be a part of. Please reach out to Sabrina Graham at sabrinagraham2@gmail.com if you have questions or are interested in volunteering.
4W Four Winds
The Wachsmans thoroughly enjoyed their first Four Winds lesson. Entomologists learned about the life cycle of certain insects, captured an insect, released the insect, and enjoyed a puppet show further explaining life cycles. Special thanks to our volunteers Ruane Miller & Nicole Flickinger who helped make the magic happen!
New Reading Curriculum at GVS
Wit & Wisdom is a K–8 English language arts curriculum that brings the rich
content everyone loves into your child's classroom. We believe that
classrooms are places where students and teachers encounter wit, wisdom,
wonder, rigor, and knowledge and that literature, history, art, and science all
have a place in ELA instruction. Wit & Wisdom helps your student meet the
expectations of the new standards while celebrating the joy of reading and
writing.
This is our introductory year with this curriculum. All classes started with
Module 0 that lets both students and teachers get to know the format and
common language. The program also relies on several read alouds with
overarching themes and questions. There are four modules for each grade
level. Click the picture below to enlarge.

Unity Day
We certainly could have done without the bee stings, but regardless, it was a great day!
Thank you to all of our volunteers who joined us!
A highlight for many was the baby turtle that Ms. Martin found! 🐢

Safford Skittles and the letter F
This week the Safford Skittles learned about the letter F. We used our classroom Ipads to draw pictures of things that started with the /f/ sound. Then each student showed the class our work on the board! Here are a few beautiful pictures of fish, flowers, and foxes!
Note about #4:
Our goal is to eventually only have preschoolers in the buckle lane. If your kiddo is in kindergarten or above - practice, practice, practice! With that said, please continue to use the buckle lane until your child is able to navigate the door and buckles on their own.
After School Care ... Shared by a GVS parent...
Cut & pasted from an email.
Wanted to share in case you hadn’t heard that there are two great after school programs going on in Lebanon this year. CCBA and FitKids.
It would be amazing if other Grantham families knew about these options and if enough families wanted to do it perhaps arrange some sort of carpool or transport option?
Both are well organized and well staffed! And they both have space. Currently I believe FitKids could handle a lot more kids. Also they run until 6pm!
Here are the links just in case this is something that piques your interest:

Hope it’s helpful to share this info. It would be great if others knew about them.
