The Roderick Review
May 2024
I hope you are having a fantastic spring! It's hard to believe that there is so little time left in the school year. As we move into May, many exciting events are happening at the Roderick Elementary School. Students and staff are looking forward to the many end-of-the-school-year celebrations and classroom activities.
At this time of the school year, our teachers and students are working diligently to finish their grade level curriculum units. Students have made wonderful growth both academically and socially throughout this year. We are all proud of your child's efforts and gains since August. Your continued support at home and communication have been essential in your child's development this school year.
Please access the Roderick School Spring Events Calendar below with updated celebrations and grade-level events over the next two months.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kevin Martes
Principal

Heath Office Update
The beautiful weather has finally arrived! The Roderick Nurses’ Office has certainly been busy! Here are a few tips to keep in mind!
Water Bottles- Please remind your child to pack a refillable water bottle everyday. There are refill stations for students to use throughout the school.
Illness- If your child is sick, please email Mrs. Monti for any questions or concerns!
Hygiene- The beautiful weather means more running and playing outside! This is a great opportunity to encourage good hygiene practices. From washing hands and taking showers daily, help teach your children the importance of proper hygiene during the warmer months.
Physicals- Please send updated physicals to the health office. They can be faxed, emailed, or hand delivered.
Camp Bournedale- Our 6th grade class will be participating in Camp Bournedale June 5-7. Medication drop off will be held on Monday June 3rd and Tuesday June 4th. Prescribed medications must be in original containers with pharmacy labels on them-label must show prescription number, date filled, physician name, medication name and directions for use. Non- prescription medications must be in the original container with directions for use.
ALL MEDICATIONS, PRESCRIPTION OR NON-PRESCRIPTION, MUST HAVE A PHYSICIAN'S ORDER TO BE ADMINISTERED.
Grade 6 Promotion Ceremony
Congratulations to all sixth grade students who will be participating in the Promotion Ceremony on Wednesday, June 12th at 10:30 a.m. on Sweatt Field. In the event of rain, the Promotion Ceremony will be held in the Gibbons Gymnasium. If the Promotion Ceremony is moved indoors because of inclement weather, only two family members will be permitted to attend. After the festivities, there will be an ice cream truck and other refreshments for students to enjoy!
Arbor Day Ceremony
Grade 4 and Grade 5 students participated in the 35th annual Wrentham Arbor Day Ceremony. Members from the Wrentham Public Works Department, National Grid, and Massachusetts Forest Fire Control and Forestry Bureau talked to the students about preventing forest fires and promoting healthy trees in Wrentham. The 2024 tree is a Japanese Maple planted behind the Roderick School off of Randall Road.
May Word of the Month
May’s word of the month, and focus for schoolwide classroom lessons, is Transitions.
What is it? Transitions are a passage from one stage or place to another. It is change. (Merriam-Webster dictionary). In school this can be a transition from one class to another but here we will focus on transitioning from one grade to the next.
Why is it important? Both human nature and research shows that change is hard for most people. Smooth transitions can be an integral part of helping a child to adjust and make the most of a new situation.
What does it look like? Talking about the end of the school year - looking forward to the next school year, celebrating successes, problem solving challenges, setting goals, saying goodbye
