News for Bay Port High School Alumni & Friends
Welcome, Proud Pirates!
September 2024
Bay Port High School has a rich tradition of excellence in the Howard-Suamico community, Northeast Wisconsin, and beyond. We are grateful for our proud alumni who live out the vision, mission, and core values of the Howard-Suamico School District each and every day.
The Pirate Nation newsletter is designed to engage, connect, and inspire HSSD alumni and friends. Please contact Howard-Suamico Education Foundation Executive Director Nicole Smith with any feedback or story ideas. We want to hear from you!
You're Invited: Stronger Together Community Conversation
Are you ready to talk about the future of HSSD? We invite you to Stronger Together, a three-day community conversation! The purpose of Stronger Together is to develop a clear strategic direction for HSSD. We want all voices to be heard!
During the three-day event, we will discuss where we've been, where we are, and where we want to go. All community groups (staff, students, families, residents, business owners, alumni, etc.) are invited to give input.
Please mark your calendars for:
- December 12, 5-9 p.m.
- December 13, 5-9 p.m.
- December 14, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
To participate, you must commit to all three dates. Childcare, food, and refreshments will be available. We appreciate and value your input! To learn more about Stronger Together, visit www.hssdschools.org/stronger-together.
Hannah Boettcher, Class of 2015
Hannah Boettcher, Bay Port 2015, knew she wanted a career in news media since she was at Bay View Middle School. Hannah achieved her childhood dream and is now an Executive Producer at FOX 45 WBFF-TV Baltimore. Last year she won two regional Emmy awards and an Associated Press award, and is nominated for four more awards this year.
Hannah credits her education at Bay Port for fostering her confidence. She says her teachers were very supportive and made her believe that she was special and could do anything she wanted to do. Hannah graduated from Bay Port with a full International Baccalaureate Diploma, and says it was an experience she wouldn’t trade for the world.
“The curriculum expanded my learning outside of the community and into the world, which I think prepared me for the work I do now,” said Hannah. “It taught me how to think outside of myself, and look at how individual topics fit into the bigger picture that is the world. It also helped me graduate college a year early.”
Hannah’s favorite part of her job is having a front row seat to history as it’s made. “Whether it be in my city or across the world, I get a really unique view of the current events that become what kids will learn about in history books,” said Hannah. “To quote Hamilton, ‘I want to be in the room where it happens,’ and my job puts me in that room.”
Thank you, Mr. Frieder!
Join us in saying thank you to Bay Port Principal Mike Frieder! As he celebrates close to 30 years of dedicated service, he has also announced that he will retire at the conclusion of this school year. Thank you for your exceptional leadership, Mr. Frieder! We look forward to a stellar final year with you.
