JTE Parent Newsletter
Tiger Families,
We have had another great week of learning! We celebrated Veterans Day, our students did an amazing job of greeting and sharing some of their projects with Arvest LEADS representatives, and our student-led podcast won three ARKAST awards from the Arkansas Podcast Collaborative. We won awards for Best Education Podcast, Best Kids and Family Podcast, and Gabby George won for Young Podcaster of the Year! We can officially say we have an award winning podcast! Our students and staff raised $133 for United Way during Hat Day! Way to go, Tigers! Next Friday, students can bring $1 to wear pajamas and bring a small stuffed animal to raise money for Shop with a Cop which will in turn benefit some of our own Tigers! Our Thanksgiving break will be November 25th-29th and school will resume on December 2nd.
Each year, JTE provides a bag of goodies to each one of our Tigers. If you would like to help purchase supplies for their gift bags, please visit https://www.signupgenius.com/.../8050A44A4A62AA1FC1... If you would like to donate in another way, please contact Shelly Poage at spoage@sdale.org or Ashley Kirby at akirby2@sdale. Items need to be dropped off in the JTE office by Friday, December 6th.
ATLAS scores are now available for you to view in the ATLAS Parent Portal. Last week, parents received an access code via email. This code will allow you to access their ATLAS results from any ATLAS assessment they have taken so far. The family portal can be accessed at this link: https://atlasportal.org/families.html. Once you have logged in, you can click on the “Guide” button for more information about how to interpret scores. The ATLAS Interim assessments evaluate all standards taught at the student’s current grade level. Students are not expected to have mastered these standards at this point in the year, so it is not uncommon to see scores of below mastery at this point in the school year.
We would like your feedback on how to utilize our Title I funds. You can give your suggestions by clicking on the survey linked here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdPycYWpW7R3HhFtKfCo3GknSQ_wZuSmqUMIhP5on6Ex9PFyQ/viewform
Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, Arkansas is transitioning to a new state-wide assessment system for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students. This new assessment system will include a beginning-of-year screener for Kindergarten through Third Grade students to identify areas in literacy and math where your child may benefit from additional support and provide their teacher with the information necessary to help them grow. You can see a detailed schedule below. You may also access practice tests with your child at home by visiting https://atlasportal.org/families.html. This site is also where you will be able to see your child’s score report.
Just a reminder…
Students may not have access to cell phones or smart watches with a texting/calling feature during school hours. If students bring a cell phone or smart watch with a texting/calling feature, it must remain in their backpack and on silent. We are not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones or smart watches.
JTE is a WONDERful place to be! Go, Tigers!
Thank you for your partnership,
Dr. Shelly R. Poage, Principal, and Ashley Kirby, Assistant Principal

JTE Character Matrix
JTE will use a Positive Behavior Interventions and Support System. We have created positively stated expectations/rules across the school to make our school safe, positive, and predictable. At John Tyson Elementary School, our student expectations are "Take care of yourself," "Take care of others," and "Take care of this place." To teach these expectations, we use a matrix that has specific examples for how to follow the expectations around the school. These examples were taught through classroom lessons in the fall and continue to be reviewed throughout the year. You can see the matrix below. In order to continue encouraging and reinforcing these positive behaviors, Tigers have been earning orange Tiger Tickets when they exhibit these behaviors. Each month, beginning in September, we will be opening our Tiger Ticket Store where students can exchange the tickets they have earned for fun prizes and experiences.
