Happy New Year! Welcome Back!
We hope everyone had a restful and rejuvenating break. We have returned back to regular routines and expectations. We appreciate you reminding your child to do their best each day, cellphone use only during breaks, be kind and speak to an adult when they need help. Please also ensure your child is not wearing clothing that advertises alcohol or slogans that are not school appropriate.
January means that we have diploma and PAT exams. This can be a stressful time for students. Key points from research on exam preparation:
Spaced repetition:
Studying material in smaller chunks over a longer period of time, rather than cramming, leads to better long-term memory retention.Active learning techniques:
Engaging with the material through methods like summarizing notes, creating flashcards, or teaching concepts to others improves comprehension and recall.Practice tests:
Taking practice exams helps familiarize yourself with the format, question types, and time constraints of the actual exam.Study environment:
Having a quiet, organized, and comfortable study space can maximize focus and productivity.Breaks and self-care:
Incorporating short breaks into your study sessions and prioritizing physical and mental well-being can prevent burnout and improve concentration.Group study:
Collaborating with peers can provide different perspectives, clarify concepts, and test understanding through discussion.Prioritization:
Identify the most important concepts and focus your study efforts accordingly.Retrieval practice:
Actively recalling information by testing yourself through quizzes or flashcards strengthens memory connections.
Potential negative aspects to avoid:
Cramming: Last-minute studying can lead to stress and poor performance.
Distractions: Studying in a noisy or cluttered environment can hinder focus.
Lack of sleep: Adequate sleep is crucial for optimal cognitive function on exam day.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. We wish all our students all the best on their upcoming exams. Titans, “You got this. We got this.”

December Scrapbook
Grade 6 field trip to the Telus World of Science
Staff and students had a lot of fun and friendly competition at our volleyball pep rally!
In December, students were encouraged to bring enough food bank items to "raise the roof" (i.e. stack to raise a roof tile in their homeroom). Congratulations to all the classes who succeeded, and earned themselves a cupcake party. And a special congratulations to 5K, who raised the roof first and earned a sundae party!
Tofield School students and staff donated a huge amount (959 items) of non-perishable food items for the food bank in December. On December 17, students formed a human chain to pass the items out the school. Thanks to all the students who also went to the community hall to sort and organize items!
The 5B art class made over 40 Christmas cards in one period for residents at the Senior's Lodge!
We thanked our incredible Breakfast Club volunteers with Tim Hortons gift cards!
GAIN got to visit Santa!
