FIRST DAY PROCEDURES
Per district procedure, parents are allowed to walk their students
to their classroom on the first day ONLY.
Parents must exit the building before instruction begins.

ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
We will have 2 drop off lines in the morning:
- Cars coming west from the Fry Rd. side will CONTINUE to line up on Saums Rd. and will drop off on the cafeteria side as usual.
- As Cars exit the Sundown parking lot, they MUST turn right (to go west). Left turns are not permitted.
- Cars coming east from the Westgreen side will now drop off in the MUD parking lot across the street from Sundown.
- We will have Sundown personnel across the street to help with the process
- For the safety of students, they MUST exit the cars on the left side (driver's side). Please go over this with your children since this is the opposite of what we ask when you drop off on the side of the school.
- Cars will then drive around the back of the MUD building and will exit on the opposite side.
- Cars exiting the MUD parking lot CANNOT make a U-turn to go west on Saums Rd. This would only continue to create a traffic jam on Saums Rd.
- Parents MAY NOT park in the MUD building to bring their children across the street.

We have an organized system in place that allows our staff to efficiently get our car riders home in the afternoons. We need your help with the following to ensure the process is successful.
- All cars must go to the end of the line. The end of the line goes past the stop light at Sitting Bull.
- If you leave the Sundown subdivision and come out of the Sitting Bull stoplight, you will need to turn right and go to the end of the line. The car rider line goes beyond the Sitting Bull stop light.
- We have a person that calls out numbers. That person is positioned on Saums Rd. past the Sitting Bull stoplight.
- Students are lined up in the order that numbers are called by the person standing at Saums Rd.
- Do not allow any cars to cut in the middle of the line. It slows down the dismissal process.
- Cars who cut in the middle of the line will be asked to wait until we have finished calling all the cars that were in line.
Dismissal for Across the Street Walkers in Pre-K, Kindergarten & 1st Grade ONLY
Parents will cross Saums Rd. to meet their student in front of the school in the designated pick-up area. Each student in Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade will be assigned a number and parents will be given an additional two tags with a corresponding number. If the card has been lost or misplaced, an additional one will need to be purchased for $1 online.
- Students will be grouped by Pre-K, Kindergarten & 1st grade and will be lined up numerically on painted lines in the front entryway to the school.
- Parents will be gathered by grade level to expedite the dismissal process.
- Teachers will check that the student and parent numbers match and check off your child's number. Once that is complete, the student is officially dismissed.
- Parents who do not present their number MUST enter the building with a physical government ID so they can be cleared by the front office allowing them to pick up their student.

IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION - MUST READ
The cut-off time to make a change of transportation is 2:00 p.m. We are unable to accept changes of transportation by phone. All changes must be in writing.
• These are the only ways you can change your transportation:
1. Email the school at setransportation@katyisd.org and include a copy of your driver’s license or passport in the email
2. Hand deliver a written note to the front office
• Please include the following information when submitting a note or email:
1. Child’s full name
2. Date
3. Teacher’s name
4. Bus number, car rider tag number, or walker number
5. Parent signature
NOTE: Each child is assigned a car tag number. If your child is riding home in the car of another child, your child still needs to travel under his/her assigned car tag number and not that of the friend.

Daily attendance is very important. It is always in the child’s best interest to be in school a full day, but we know that is not always possible. If you need to check your child out for a doctor’s appointment, dentist appointment, etc. towards the end of the school day, it must be done BY 2:00 PM.

FREE BREAKFAST & LUNCH
All students at Sundown Elementary are eligible for free breakfast and lunch.
Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria for students in K-5th grade beginning at 7:35 a.m. Instruction begins at 7:50 a.m. Students who arrive after 7:48 a.m. will not be allowed to go into the cafeteria to eat. Please plan accordingly to allow time for your child to have breakfast. Pre-K will eat together in the cafeteria after the tardy bell rings. Parents are not allowed to eat breakfast with the students at school.

ANNUAL STUDENT UPDATE - CHECK YOUR EMAIL
All Katy ISD parents students are asked to complete the Annual Student Update starting August 1.
Parents/guardians of current Katy ISD students have been notified by email when each child’s Annual Student Update form is available. Parents with multiple students received an email for each child. Parents are asked to please complete the Annual Student Update for each enrolled child prior to the start of school on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
CLASS 1:1 INSURANCE PAYMENT
Insurance for Chromebooks is $20 per student device each year. The insurance covers two repairs or one replacement. If a Chromebook has to be repaired for a third time or a second replacement, the parent or guardian is responsible for the cost.

Se solicita a todos los padres y estudiantes de Katy ISD que completen la Actualización Anual para Estudiantes a partir del 1 de agosto. Los padres/tutores de los estudiantes actuales de Katy ISD han sido notificados por correo electrónico cuando el formulario de Actualización Anual del Estudiante de cada niño esté disponible.
