Principal's Message
Hello CRS School Community!
Somehow, the first month of the school year is already behind us and it has been another terrific start to the school year. Students and staff have been enjoying the excellent fall weather and we have already had a number of school assemblies to help build a sense of culture and community within the school.
The Thanksgiving weekend is a four-day break for students this year, due to October 11 being a Staff Collaboration Day and October 14 being the holiday Monday. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I want to express my gratitude to you, our school community, for the many ways that you contribute to our efforts to make CRS A Learning and Caring Place! From participating in communication with your child's teachers to attending events and functions throughout the year to volunteering in the school and on field trips to, parents, guardians and community members are crucial in making all of the things that happen at an elementary school into reality!
Another way this school community has demonstrated its engagement has been through recent fundraising efforts. This year's Terry Fox campaign raised over $1000 to help the fight to end cancer, which is outstanding! Additionally, our recent school fundraiser required us to order extra cases of chocolate almonds when we often are sending leftovers back. The money raised through chocolate sales will primarily be used to reduce field trip costs for all classes as well as other school events and presentations that may come up throughout the school year. Thank you so much for your generous contributions of both time and money to make these fundraisers so successful!
After the Thanksgiving weekend, things really ramp up at CRS. In addition to this time of year being an optimal time for learning, now that students are settled into their new classes and staff have gotten to know more about their students as learners, there are also a number of school events around the corner. Students in many classes are looking forward to the Camrose Kodiaks Hockey Hooky game on October 16th, school pictures and the first day of parent-teacher interviews all take place next week. Following that, the Scholastic Book Fair, more parent-teacher interviews and our next Parent Council meeting are happening during the week of October 21-25. You can view all of the upcoming October events listed in this newsletter or at any time by visiting our school website.
I'll end this month's newsletter message with a formal invitation to attend the upcoming Parent Council meeting. Our small but mighty group of parents do additional fundraising to support myriad events and resources that enrich students' experiences at CRS. For example, a significant portion of our student Chromebooks, monthly hot lunches, the annual Kindergarten and Gr. 5 farewell events and the Fitset Ninja obstacle mobile course that we have hosted in each of the past two years are just some of the enhancements that students enjoy thanks to the work of the Parent Council! Parent Council meetings take place for about an hour every month or two and they provide an opportunity to find out more about what is going on at CRS and across BRSD, in terms of both academics and extra-curricular events, and to advise the school on upcoming decisions. Anyone who would like to be involved in these ways is encouraged to attend the next council meeting at 9:00 am on Thursday, October 24.
Yours in Education,
Reid Lansing

School Pictures - October 16&17
CRS School Pictures took place next week. Please see below for information about new ways to access you child's pictures.
Lifetouch Customer Care Contact:
Questions about your child's fall photos status, errors on their orders or how to place orders, call our Lifetouch Customer Care line at 1.866.457.8212 or go to our ordering website, www.mylifetouch.ca
EASY Way of accessing your child’s images online:
Lifetouch Photography is excited to announce the launch of a new way to access photos online.
After much safety and security testing, Lifetouch developed a way for families to access their child’s photo using their student ID number.
Go to our website at www.mylifetouch.ca, click on Student ID and follow the detailed instructions to view and order photos.
If you have any questions on this ordering process, please call the Lifetouch Customer Care Line at 1.866.457.8212 or access the live chat on our website, www.mylifetouch.ca
Parents can still access their photos online by using their child’s portrait ID and access code. By enabling the option of using your child’s student ID number, gives people another way to access photos if they lose their proof sheet.

We have a couple of things happening in the Learning Commons, this month!
Students can sign out more library books if they choose!
Promoting literacy is a priority at CRS and it’s so important for students to be reading regularly. You may have noticed your student bringing home more library books as the number of books they can borrow each week has increased. Thank you for spending time reading these books with your child each week!
With more books being signed out , it is very helpful for them to be returned to circulation each week. If you are unsure about your child’s library day, please check with your child’s homeroom teacher, who will be happy to share that information with you so that you child will be able to sign out new books on their designated day. If your child does miss their library day or if they finish reading their library books quickly, there are opportunities for them to exchange books each week, Monday through Thursday.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to CRS!
The Book Fair is coming to Chester Ronning on Monday, October 21 and runs through Thursday, October 24. This event serves as an important fundraiser for our Learning Commons to buy new books each year. Class times and book fair flyers will be coming home the week before the Book Fair.
Here is a sneak peek of what is coming! https://bookfairs.scholastic.ca/bf/chesterronningschool
We will be doing Family Night on Monday, October 21 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Learning Commons. Come join us on Family Night and enter your student’s name in the draw to win $25.00 worth of books for them and $25.00 worth of books for their classroom!
If you don't want your child to carry cash, MyDoh app offers a reloadable card that Scholastics will accept. Please note that it takes 5-7 business days for the card to arrive. Please find directions to apply here: https://www.mydoh.ca
If you are able to volunteer 30 minutes during the day when classes come, that would be great. Please let Mrs. Green know, kgreen@brsd.ab.ca or 780-672-5588
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Book Fair!

Student Council Meeting
The next meeting for School Council is October 24 at 9 am in the office. We invite all families to join us.
Classroom Treats
We love that you want to celebrate with your child on special occasions and are appreciative of your generosity, but we ask that no class treats be brought to school. Due to food allergies that may be present in your child's classroom we are unable to hand these treats out. If you would like to pack something special for your child on special occasions, we encourage you to add it to their lunch boxes.
