February's Heartfelt Highlights
Theodore Roosevelt School No. 7 Newsfeed [Vol. 2, Issue 2]
Fabulous February: A Month of Fun and Friendship!
What Does Friendship Mean?
At Theodore Roosevelt School No. 7, we believe that friendships are built on kindness, trust, and respect. We work hard every day to be good friends by listening to each other, sharing smiles, and supporting one another. We know that true friends list each other up, whether we're playing together and recess or helping each other in class. Here we encourage everyone to be a good friend to other and create a school where kindness and friendships shine bright! --Ms. Pereira
Student of the Month
Congratulations to our January Students of the Month! This month's theme was Responsibility, and these students have truly shown what is means to take ownership of their actions and make thoughtful choices. Whether it's staying on top of their work, helping others, or being a positive role model, they've all gone above and beyond. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication. Keep up the great work!
Spirit Week Photo Slideshow đŸ“¸
The photo slideshow captures the excitement and school spirit of Roosevelt School No.7 during Spirit Week. It highlights our students participating in various themed days, showing off their creativity, school pride, and enthusiasm. From wearing special colors, to dressing up in fun attire, the slideshow is a celebration of our students' energy and spirit throughout the week!
Feeling All the Feels? Here's How to Stay Cool, Calm, and Collected!
"When students are young and experience strong emotions it can be very confusing to them. They often don't yet have the vocabulary to express themselves and their emotions can cause them to cry or tantrum. It is important that we teach them the names for what they're feeling so that they can use their language to express themselves. Some of my favorite words to teach are "frustrated" and "aggravated"! Once students are able to label their feelings, we move on to teaching the coping skills necessary to deal with those feelings. I teach several different breathing techniques, isometric exercises, and positive self-talk. With students in grades K-2 we might make a choice wheel with their favorite coping skills to use when needed. With grades 3-5 we might make a book of skills to use when the need arises. These little projects are all individualized to each student, and they are able to keep them in class or take them home." - Ms. Gunar
A special shout-out to our amazing school counselor, Ms. Gunar, for all the wonderful work she does with her students every single day. During Counselor Week, we want to take a moment to recognize her dedication, support, and the positive impact she has on everyone at our school. Thank you, Ms. Gunar, for always going above and beyond! We appreciate you. đŸ’—
Read-A-Thon
We're excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Read-A-Thon! A Read-A-Thon is a fun event where students read as many books as they can in a certain amount of time. Tou can pick any books you like and even get sponsored by family and friends for each book you read. All the money raised will help support our school. It's a great way to challenge yourself, enjoy reading, and raise funds for fun school activities! Be on the lookout for the flyer. Let's get reading!
Donors Choose Donation
The Student Council at our school recently took on a special project to distribute hate, scarves, and gloves to students in need. These items were generously donated through Donors Choose, with the effort organized by Ms. Lima. The donation helped keep students warm and cozy during the chilly winter months, and the Student Council was proud to be part of this wonderful initiative. Thank you to everyone who contributed!
Instrumental Music Program
Exciting news, 4th and 5th graders! Mr. Ron Wilson, our amazing music teacher, will be offering an Instrumental Music Program after school from February to May! This is a fantastic opportunity to explore the world of music and learn to play an instrument! While the school won't be providing instruments, you're welcome to bring your own or arrange to rent one. Get ready to make some amazing music and have fun with your classmates-- don't miss out!
Read Across America
Celebrate Read Across America Week!
From March 3rd to March 7th, we'll be celebrating Read Across America Week! This special week encourages everyone to celebrate the joy of reading, inspired by Dr. Seuss's birthday. We'll have fun weekly dress themes and many other exciting activities all week long! It's a great time to dive into new books and join in the reading fun with your classmates.
