Woodland Elementary Weekly Notes
Message From The Principal
Dear Woodland Families!
Welcome back from what I hope was a fun filled Spring Break. I know the students were excited for a few days of excitement and relaxation, but I am sure they were also anxious to be back to their friends and teachers. We are looking forward to a successful fourth quarter at Woodland Elementary School.
The past few weeks have been busy for the students. The Family Fun Night was a huge success and I would like to thank our PTO members who coordinated and organized the event. We had a fantastic turnout and the prizes, food trucks, and games were all big hits for our students. The Fang’s Reading Program has wrapped up and is always an enjoyable activity for our students to engage with as readers. I hope you are continuing to have rich conversations with your children at home about the books they are reading. Thank you again to our PTO for their support of both projects! Lastly, please keep our second annual Woodland Elementary Art Show on your calendars. This will be held on May 9th and it is a great opportunity for you to view all of the artwork from our students this year. These creations are outstanding!
As we wrap up the final quarter of the school year, we will continue to focus our energy on developing independent problem solvers, who are ready to tackle the world. Spring is always an exciting time as much of the learning from the year is really applied and the students grow exponentially in all areas. Before we know it, we will be celebrating the conclusion to another great school year. Until then, we are going to keep the “pedal to the metal” and expect great things from all of our learners.
This continues to be a great year and I am looking forward to seeing how our learners finish up strong. Thank you for your ongoing support and please call or email with any questions or concerns. Best wishes to all of you!
Go Wolves!
Timothy M. Doleysh, Ph.D.

Spring MAP Testing
The spring MAP tests will be administered to students in grades 2, 3 and 4 during the month of May. MAP tests are administered three times a year and measure student growth in the areas of reading, language arts, and mathematics. This information, along with other student data, provide our teachers with valuable information to inform instruction and monitor and set goals. Results of the MAP tests will be mailed to parents when they become available. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Counselor's Corner with Mr. Biolo
Throughout this year you have been hearing all sorts of news and information about Career Planning. Career Planning is a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post-secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills.
As a part of this process, our elementary schools are focusing on career and work habits awareness. These concepts are taught through our Life Skills class with Mr. Biolo and the Social Studies curriculum.
During Life Skills class students will explore broad groupings of careers, called career clusters. Career clusters are an organizational tool which allows students to think more broadly about jobs and examine their similarities and differences. These broad groupings are later used as a comparison for students’ strengths and interests as they begin intermediate and middle school. On the back side of this sheet you will find a visual for all 16 career cluster groups. Students will explore many of these clusters throughout their time in elementary school.
Talking with your child about how your career, other family members’ careers, or careers you encounter in the community may fit into one or more career clusters would be a great way to extend learning to your home! You may also want to have conversations about the skills needed to be successful in certain jobs or talk about whether your child believes they might enjoy a job in a specific career cluster.
If you have any questions about the career awareness activities happening at Woodland Elementary, contact Mr. Biolo or your child’s homeroom teacher.
