CSD Weekly Update
WEEK #10, Cambrian School District, October 23, 2020
Dear Cambrian Families,
We just completed week 10 of the 2020-21 school year and a special thank you to all our amazing Cambrian students, like the ones above, who share their beautiful smiles with us weekly and remind us how many weeks into the new year we have come.
We are quickly approaching the end of October, and our students have been incredible at adapting to distance learning. I know that this entire season of change and isolation has been challenging for all of our families and that each of you has worked hard to contribute to your student’s success despite the turmoil surrounding us. So thank you to all the parents, family members, and support mentors for helping our students during distance learning. As a parent of 3 young boys, I understand the balancing act right now and recognize that it takes true teamwork right now to support our children and each other during these times.
I do hope you had an opportunity to watch the video I sent out earlier this week outlining our current reopening plan. In case you didn’t have an opportunity to watch it yet, I am attaching it here again for your viewing convenience. As I shared last Friday after the October 15th school board meeting (To view the Reopening presentation, please click here.), our adjusted timeline for a gradual return to in-person instruction is as follows:
Specialized Targeted Instruction, Special Education Preschool and Special Day Classes to be brought back throughout November and December. This timeline has been adjusted as staff works with individual class programs to address unique needs of the classroom. Parents will be contacted individually with specific start dates for the return to in person instruction.
Expansion of support for at-risk students or specialized support.
We will continue to expand in-person school site cohorts for targeted groups in November and December as needed.
Transitional Kindergarten through Grade 2:
Start in-person instruction the week of January 11th.
Grade 3 through Grade 5:
Start in-person instruction the following week of January 19th.
Grade 6 through Grade 8:
Timeline for return to be brought back for Board approval in November.
As you know, these are uncertain times, not only for our community but for the entire world. As such, our plans outlined above may change as the factors or information changes from the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health information. Families would be informed prior to their child’s return week in January if there are any changes to the schedule.
I want to reaffirm our commitment to the students and family of Cambrian. My team and I put the health, well-being, and safety of our students as our first priority. Thank you for your partnership in this most peculiar period of history. You have made Cambrian an exceptional place to learn, grow, and thrive. We are CAMBRIAN.
Helpful Tips from our Cambrian School District Nurse
The lack of access to dental care is a problem for many California children. The kindergarten dental checkup requirement (AB 1433) signed into law in 2005, helps schools identify children suffering from untreated dental disease and helps parents establish a dental home for their children. The California Dept of Public Health requires your child to receive an assessment of his or her oral health as part of school readiness activities for kindergarten entry (or first grade if this is your child’s first year in public school). An oral health assessment conducted the year prior to kindergarten, or by May of your child’s kindergarten year satisfies this requirement.
Although students are learning virtually in the start of the school year, it is a continued requirement that students entering public schools for the first time, in Kindergarten of First grade, receive an oral health assessment and provide the approved form to school by May 31.
If your child is scheduled for a dental appointment soon check out this handout on what to expect when going to the dentist during the COVID -19 pandemic. Click here for the English version. and click here for the Spanish version.
