A Letter from the Headmaster
Dear SJCA-FI Parents,
I hope you are ready for an exciting September at SJCA-FI! First, on Tuesday evening, September 12th we welcome Dr. Leonard Sax to speak to all of our parents in the cafeteria. He is a nationally known speaker who is very engaging. I believe every single one of our parents will benefit from this session. Dr. Sax will speak on "Evidence-based parenting, Increasing the odds for raising happy, healthy, and successful children."
Dr. Sax will also speak with our boys and girls in separate assemblies on Wednesday and with our faculty Wednesday afternoon. We are looking forward to a wonderful time of growth for each of us. Please attend the parent event on Tuesday evening. Childcare and dinner will both be available for purchase. See the flyer in this edition of the Lion Line for more information and learn more about Dr. Sax at https://www.leonardsax.com/ .
That very same week is our 3rd Annual Constitution Day Celebration. Our scholars will participate in content-rich learning about the founding of our country and participate in an assembly where they will learn much about the Constitution of the United States. I am sorry, but parents are not permitted to attend due to limited parking and assembly space. We will be sure to share the day with you through social media or photos.
Also, be sure to register for our 4th Annual Golf Tournament, Monday, October 16th at Eagle Harbor. This has always been a fun event and I invite you to play, invite players, volunteer, or help as a community partner. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year - all proceeds help us to better meet the mission of SJCA. Register at https://lionscouncil.org/golf-tournament/ today.
Lastly, I just wanted to thank you for entrusting us with the education of your children. We are a school with a mission. Our goal is to build intelligent, virtuous American citizens!
Lion Strong!
Mr. Johnson

World Champion Gold Medal Winner, Averie Smith
Averie Smith has been with SJCA since its inaugural year and is a freshman this year. She began baton twirling at SJCA as part of the after-school club and has been twirling with June Stoeber and the Allstars ever since. Her team earned the honor of being invited to perform at the World Baton Championships in Liverpool, England.
She showed immense dedication and perseverance for perfection by giving up her summer to prepare for this event with practices averaging over seven hours multiple times a week. She was the only student from Clay County to attend.
Averie performed four routines and three of the four routines received a medal. Senior Majorettes Marching Corps received gold and Majorettes Show Twirl Accessories Corps. Majorettes Traditional Corps received a silver medal. Two World Champion gold medals and silver. For her to be able to stand on a podium while our national anthem played, was unforgettable!
ATTENTION PARENTS!
We are looking for some amazing stories from you to publish in future editions of The Lion Line. Simply answer this question, "Why did you choose St. Johns Classical Academy and what has it meant for your family?"
We the People
While tears flowed down his face, elderly Benjamin Franklin needed assistance in signing his name to the newly penned Constitution of the United States. While he was exiting Independence Hall, a woman inquired as to what type of government was created. Franklin famously responded, “a republic, if you can keep it.” And keep it we have!
September 17th marks 236 years since the signing of the oldest (and shortest) Constitution of a major government. Our curriculum at St. Johns Classical Academy requires that scholars read and understand original documents to deepen their historical knowledge. Over the next two weeks, all scholars will study and memorize the preamble. The History department will host a patriotic ceremony, focusing on the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence as foundations for the freedoms we all value as Americans. On Friday, September 15th, our guest speaker will be Florida’s Secretary of State, Cord Byrd. Drawing from his expertise in law and government service, Secretary Byrd will speak to our scholars about the five rights ensconced in the First Amendment: freedom of religion, assembly, petition, press, and speech. Martha Washington will also make an appearance, and our scholars will sing patriotic music accompanied by our talented school band. We are excited about this tremendous opportunity where our scholars will enjoy learning and celebrating our great nation together. Our fervent desire is that our well-educated scholars will become the future leaders of their generation and continue to uphold the lasting values that the Founding Fathers first articulated, even through tears.

From the Lions Council
Letter from the Lions Council Chair
Lion family,
THANK YOU!
The wave of yellow shirts on campuses for the August Spirit Day was inspiring. Our entire school community came together as one, both Fleming Island and Orange Park campuses, to support our fellow scholar and her family.
By purchasing the "Chloe is Courageously Conquering Cardio" T-shirts, you supported. By participating in Spirit Day, you supported. And by donating to the family, you supported.
In total, St. Johns Classical Academy families raised $1,325.24 to support the Morton family during this unimaginable time. We will give a check to the Morton family to use as they see fit.
Thank you for supporting a member of our Lion Family!
Nicole Chapman.
Chair, Lions Council
