A Message from the Superintendent
Dear TTUSD Parents & Community Members,
We are wrapping up one of the most challenging school years in the history book; challenging for students, parents, teachers, administrators, and our entire support staff. It certainly was a tough way to start as a new Superintendent in a new school district.
Yes, it’s been an exhausting year for all; however, we have a lot to be proud of as well. We all lived and worked through a pandemic while juggling a great deal. We all did our part to keep our TTUSD community safe while educating our kids as best we could during a global pandemic. We put kids first. We made tough decisions based on the best information available at the time, while conditions and directives changed constantly. We balanced the demands of work and life. We learned, and we stretched, and we grew.
As a community, we were “in it together” and there for one another. We made sure no student “fell through the cracks.” We provided over 375,000 free meals to our youth. We made sure those who needed assistance in Tahoe Truckee were cared for and did not go hungry. We were in this together.
We are looking forward to safely transitioning our students back to full school days this fall. We are returning to our pre-COVID bell schedules for the 2021-2022 school year,
We don’t yet know what the California Department of Public Health will require of schools regarding safety and COVID mitigation measures for the new school year. Regardless, at the forefront of our planning and preparation for an outstanding new school year will be our district’s #1 Belief Statement: students are the focus of all our decisions. We will meet each student’s learning needs to ensure their educational progress and mental well-being. Our five guiding principles during COVID (health & safety, social-emotional wellness, access & equity, communication, and flexibility) will remain in place.
CDPH will revise its guidance for K-12 schools later this summer, based on the conditions at the time. Once they do, we will update our protocols and provide up-to-date FAQs before school reopening on August 31, 2021. We hope that we will be able to once again welcome parent volunteers to our campuses. We also hope to be once again able to offer neighborhood school bus transportation as an option to all of our TTUSD families, but all of this will depend on the specific guidance and directives we receive from CDPH. Stay tuned!
My wish for our families and our entire TTUSD this summer is that you each have time to rest, time to reflect, and time to recharge!
Stay well,
Carmen Ghysels

Congratulations to our Class of 2021
Our Class of 2021 has accomplished a great deal and now they are about to embark on an exciting new chapter in their lives. Many have been accepted to many prestigious colleges and universities across the country and we’d like to show off a partial list of college and university offers our new graduates received.
Many of our graduates have received college scholarships, some multiple scholarships! Our local community played a big role in supporting our scholar's continued education and our graduates received scholarships from local foundations, non-profits, community organizations, and individual trusts, many facilitated by the Tahoe Truckee Community Scholarship, an umbrella organization that receives funding from various local organizations and nonprofits. We appreciate the community's generous support of our graduating students.
