LHS Parents,

Hope Week - April 7-11

Hope Squad has been busy planning an awesome Hope Week for next week. Hope Week is designed to give students the opportunity to have fun, find hope, and learn that they are enough. Each day of Hope Week has a special theme and an activity planned for students to participate in. Each activity is meant to bring joy to students while also bringing awareness to adolescent mental health. Throughout the week, they will also be raising money for the Steve Kenyon Outdoor Classroom by holding a basket raffle. A special thanks goes out to the Ben Morrison Memorial Fund for their continued support of Hope Week.

Monday - Pajama Day and free donuts before school

Tuesday - Wear Red, a presentation by the DoitforJack Jack Quehl Foundation on the dangers of drugs, specifically fentanyl, and a mental wellness break

Wednesday - Jersey Day and a special clothespin activity to spread kindness and support

Thursday - Student-Staff Attire Swap Day and a petting farm

Friday - Hawaiian Day and a visit from the Loveland Dairy Whip ice cream truck (ice cream available for purchase during lunch)

Winter Percussion Accolades

Congratulations to the Winter Percussion Ensemble on their first place victory this past weekend. The winter percussion ensemble traveled to Troy High School on Saturday for the prelims and the Wright State Nutter Center on Sunday for the Mid-East Performance Association percussion finals. This group is very young with only one senior and several 8th graders. Throughout the season, the group competed against groups from around the Cincinnati, Dayton, and Northern Kentucky region. They were slated to come in runner up but had two really great and intense performances and ended up coming in grand champion. Way to go Loveland Winter Percussion Ensemble.

All information regarding EOC testing is being communicated to students at school. However, here are a few reminders for the students who will be testing:

1) Students must bring their FULLY CHARGED chromebook to school. If they do not have a school issued chromebook, one will be provided to them for the test.

2) CELL PHONES must be turned off and put away for the entire duration of the test.

3) Plug in wired headphones are permitted for each of the tests EXCEPT for English 10.

4) A roster containing the names of the students, date and name of the test, and the room number of where the student is to report on the specific test day has been posted outside the cafeteria.

Students who are not testing on a specific day are not required to come to school until 1st Bell. We understand that this modified schedule could cause transportation issues for students. The high school will be open to any students who are not testing at the regular drop off time. Students reporting at regular time and not testing will report to the cafeteria and can use the time to work on assignments.

Attention Parents of Juniors

Parents/guardians of juniors: Your students learned about five important considerations when building a list of colleges to apply to during advisory on March 20. The school counseling department has also developed a presentation that is specific to you as you support your student in this journey. Please watch this video to gain insights into meaningful strategies for this important process. Feel free to reach out to the appropriate school counselor with questions. We are happy to help!

Building Your Dream

The next Building Your Dream interview features Ronnell Ellison sharing his encouragement for success. Ryan Faessler serves as our host and offers Mr. Ellison an opportunity to share his insights with LHS students. Click on this link to check it out!

Exploration Wednesday 2025

Exploration Wednesday in 2025

Each school year Loveland High School pauses from its usual processes to give students an opportunity to learn through community service and personal growth activities. The date for this in 2025-26 will be Wednesday, October 22. The seniors (class of 2026) will participate in either community service, a college visit or a career shadow. The freshman (class of 2029) will participate in job shadowing. The sophomores (class of 28) will take the high school version of YouScience* and juniors (class of 2027) will choose from one of the following options:

ASVAB Career Exploration Program
Not just for those who are planning on serving our nation in the military, the ASVAB is a valuable career assessment that can help students to compare their results with the career research that is done in Naviance. While there is no obligation to pursue military service for any student who opts to take the ASVAB, this assessment can help those who are considering enlisting to make plans for specific jobs in the service. Please see this link for more information.

Practice ACT
Taking a practice ACT can help those students who are interested in experiencing a college readiness assessment that will lead to suggestions for future improvement. Provided by LEAP, students will take a retired ACT test in order to learn about what to expect when sitting for an official test session. Score reports will be emailed directly to the students. See this link for a sample report - Sample ACT Diagnostic Report

PSAT
The PSAT serves as the preliminary SAT and also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (when taken in 11th grade). Students who choose this option will have access to free, personalized online prep tools for the SAT by linking their College Board accounts with Khan Academy. Taking this assessment in both grades 10 and 11 will allow for a measurement of college readiness growth. Please see this link for more information.

WorkKeys
WorkKeys is an assessment for students who are considering earning an industry-recognized credential while in high school. Students who choose this option will be assessed in Applied Math, Graphic Literacy and Workplace Documents. Any student who is giving consideration to attending Great Oaks or going into the workforce after high school is encouraged to choose this option. Please see this link for more information.

Members of the class of 2027 will fill out a selection form during advisory on March 20, choosing an activity that will best assist them with making plans for after high school. Please be sure to discuss these opportunities before then. The form will remain open until Friday, April 4. A selection will be made on the student’s behalf for anyone who does not complete the Google form.

*We are also particularly excited for the sophomores (class of 2028) to take the high school version of YouScience, an aptitude based career assessment that is based on "brain games." This assessment takes what students may have learned through the middle school version and expands it to include more aptitudes with relevant connections to opportunities after high school. Please see this brief video to learn more about YouScience.

Please contact Mr. Mitchell at mitchedr@lovelandschools.org with any questions. Thank you!
