January 31, 2025
A Message From Your Principal
Dear Eames Way Families,
As we wrap up the last week of January, I want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the incredible efforts of our students. We are so proud of the way they have embraced the GRIT challenge, showing perseverance and determination in all they do. In fact, we are thrilled to share that we are almost finished with our first full lap around the Dining Room with our footprints—what an amazing visual representation of our hard work!
This week, 14 more students earned the Principal’s Award for demonstrating “Acceptance”, helping to make EWS a more welcoming and inclusive community for all. Their kindness and leadership continue to inspire us. Additionally, many students reached an exciting milestone by accumulating five Junior Ram Awards—a testament to their positive choices and commitment to our school values.
With Groundhog Day just around the corner, students have been buzzing with excitement, engaging in lively conversations about whether they are hoping for an early spring or a longer winter. We also recognized the Lunar New Year this week! Their curiosity and enthusiasm remind us all of the joy of learning and exploring new ideas together.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering such a strong, caring, and engaged school community. We look forward to all the exciting moments ahead in February!
Warm regards,
Ms. Bishop
Principal

"Kindergarten Interviews" By Teagan Laffin, Grade 5
I chose to interview two kindergarteners to get to know them better and to learn more about their experience in kindergarten. The two students I interviewed were Lyra and Beau.
Beau’s favorite school lunch is pancakes and his favorite activity is indoor recess. His favorite subject to learn is math and he loves learning with Mrs. Devin. His favorite holiday is Christmas and he has currently lost two teeth, which is very proud of. He has one loose tooth at the moment and can’t wait for it to fall out. His favorite book is “Harry and the Lava.” His challenge for the Eames Way Grit Challenge is to be more quiet and listen to others. He is six years old and he loves chickens, roosters, and dogs. His favorite colors are red and green (because he loves Christmas so much). Last Halloween he was an alien riding on the back of a t-rex. Lastly, his favorite movie is the Wizard of Oz.
Lyra’s favorite activities at school are Heggerty, Number Corner, and Math. Her favorite school lunch is yogurt and her favorite subject to learn is Math. She loves learning with Mrs. Stys and her favorite holiday is Valentine’s Day. She has not lost ANY teeth yet, but is really excited about her one wiggly tooth and can’t wait for it to fall out! Her favorite book is the Magic Treehouse and her Grit Challenge is to do iReady. She is five years old and her favorite animals are unicorns and dragons. Her favorite colors are purple and pink. She was Glinda for Halloween and her favorite movie is Wicked!
It was really fun to interview these kindergarteners and learn more about them! Any time spent talking with kindergarteners is always really fun and special!
"Eames Way Updates" By Charlotte Rorke, Grade 4
This week at school has been very fun yet interesting! The weather has been extremely windy! On Tuesday at first recess the wind got so strong that the soccer net almost blew into the woods! Also this week my grade (4th grade) presented their book reports. We all read different chapter books. People did posters, slideshows and even board games! We gave each other feedback on our presentations and shared what we liked and what we learned from each other. All in all everyone did great with their projects.
Last Monday was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, also known as MLK Day! Everyone got the day off to honor Martin Luther King, a true American hero! We learned all about MLK and how he fought for people's rights.
The whole school has been working on earning their grit footprints by accomplishing goals that they've had, like getting better at math, being a Peace Builder, or reading every night. We almost have a whole lap around the dining room, which means we will get a whole school prize or celebration! Also last week everyone met up with their big friends and little friends! We used a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast. We had so much fun finding out how we were different and alike.
As you can tell, this week and last week have been really fun!

Indoor Recess Clarification
Ideally, our goal is to have students enjoy fresh air and fun at outdoor recess as often as possible. Unfortunately, we've had to shift to indoor recess quite a bit lately due to the weather. To clarify, we take several factors into consideration and make a decision as soon as possible. Factors include:
- The "feels like" temperature (the threshold for indoor recess is approximately colder than 18 degrees OR warmer than 90 degrees)
- Condition of the playground and blacktop recess area (is it icy, muddy, etc)
- Wind (the school experiences stronger wind conditions due to being up on the hill)
We appreciate your patience and flexibility during these winter months to ensure the safety and health of our students!

Nurse Update - Healthy Winter Season!
Here are a few tips to stay healthy and stop the spread of germs this winter season:
Practice hand hygiene frequently with soap and water or hand sanitizer.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. If a tissue is not available, cover them with an elbow, not a hand.
Clean high-touch surfaces in your home frequently with household disinfectants.
Keep your child home from school if they have a fever, especially in combination with a cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, congestion, runny nose, or sore throat. They should remain home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.
Avoid social gatherings if you or your children are ill.
Proper handwashing, nutrition, adequate hydration, and regular sleep are the best ways to prevent illness. These strategies also shorten the duration of an illness.
Helpful tips for students to be successful at school:
Healthy Snack: Please pack a healthy snack EVERY DAY. Great snacks include easy-to-eat fruits and veggies like apples, oranges, carrots, and cucumbers as well as whole grain snacks including granola bars, and crackers. Cheese sticks and yogurts are another great option. These ideas help keep hungry bellies at bay and students ready to learn!
Water Bottle; Have your child bring a water bottle to school EVERY DAY. The students have access to the bottle fillers and can refill their water bottles as needed throughout the day.
Proper Sleep: “Sleep is the power source that recharges students during the night so they can thrive during the day.” (American Academy of Sleep Medicine)
Cold Weather Gear: We want to be able to send students outside for as long as possible despite the chilly temps. Please be sure students dress in layers for school- they need proper weather gear for outdoor play even when the inside temperature is warm. If students do not have appropriate weather/snow gear their outside activities may be somewhat limited so they stay warm and safe.
If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at 781-834-5090 x44500 or email me at awhite@mpsd.org
