Message To Parents From Our Executive Headteacher
Dear Parent/Carer,
The term is now in full swing and it is lovely to see the children settled and fully engaged in their learning. There are class visits scheduled to various London landmarks in an effort to support classroom learning. The planned cycle of parent workshops has begun and I know that the parents’ groups from both schools are busy planning events for our wonderful children, outside of the normal school day.
I would like to extend my thanks to the children, parents and staff who supported the MacMillan coffee morning events and donated generously to this worthy cause.
During the month of October, we make a special effort to pray the Holy Rosary. There will be opportunities for the children to participate in praying the rosary with their peers over the next few days and weeks and to become familiar with this special prayer.
Just a reminder that parents’ consultation evening will take place before half term as we feel it is important that you get to meet your child’s class teacher as soon as possible to discuss how they are progressing. A letter will go out shortly. Once you receive this, please sign up for an appointment at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
Wishing you all a very restful weekend,
Best Wishes,
Ms Hampton
Executive Headteacher
St Francis Assembly
Today the School came together to attend our first class assembly of the year. It was presented by 3/4H and the theme was on St Francis. Today is the feast day of St Francis and the children gave a lovely account of his life and relationship with God. Their singing, loud voices and drama were great. Well done to them all.
A reminder to parents/Carers that we hold a coffee/tea morning after each assembly. Please try to stay behind if you are able, to have a drink and chat.
Next week’s assembly will be presented by 1D.
Harvest Festival
As mentioned above, we will be holding our annual Harvest Festival next Friday. We are asking our parents/cares to donate an item of tinned or dry foodstuff, if they are able. You can start bringing these in from Monday to the School Office. All items collected will go to Fr Peter at St Pius X to create Christmas Hampers for the needy of the parish and our own School community.
Macmillan Cancer Support Appeal
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our Macmillan Cancer Support Appeal by donating cakes or buying them. By combining the money we raises from the cake sale and the Staff Coffee morning, we managed to collected over £240. This is amazing and more than doubles last year’s total. A huge thank you also to the Chaplaincy and the PFA who ran the event for us.
RE Home Learning
Gospel: Anyone who speaks for me cannot be against me (Mark 10:2-16)

You will have an opportunity to discuss them again next week in School during the Gospel/Well done Assembly.

KS1
- Why was Jesus annoyed?
- Why are the children important to God?
- What can we do as children at St Charles School to make God even happier with us?
KS2
- Why do you think the disciples turned the children away?
- What was the message that Jesus was trying to give the disciples?
- How can we be like children, even when we have grown up, and enter Heaven quicker?
Prayer Bear
Each week, a child in Nursery will be selected to bring home Polly, our Nursery Prayer Bear.
Polly is helping Nursery to show their love to God through prayer and caring deeds.
Last weekend at bed time, Harry and Sophia set up their table to pray with Prayer Bear. They made the sign of the cross before saying a special prayer of thanks to God for their family, and to ask him to help us to protect each other always.
We look forward to seeing where Polly travels to next and hearing about some of the kind things your child does with Polly over the weekend!
Attendance
This weeks attendance award goes to 3/4H with 97.8% attendance.
This weeks punctuality award goes to 3H with 0 minutes lost.
We are working towards achieving 96% attendance this academic year. Please help us to achieve this by ensuring that your child attends school each day and by not booking any holiday during term time. Please be aware that holiday leave in term time cannot be authorised. There is strong correlation between good attendance and good progress. So together, let’s give our children the best possible chance of reaching their potential.
Uniform
We expect all pupils to acknowledge our uniform policy and wear their full St Charles school uniform, including their tie and navy or black leather school shoes to and from school and throughout the school day with the obvious exceptions of P.E. Also, if pupils are not wearing the school coat, they should wear a black or navy coat or jacket.

He will be taking individual and sibling photographs. Please ensure that your child is in full and correct school uniform that day, as they should be every day!
Student Council
The children have been very busy preparing and delivering their speeches for our student council last week. Well done to all of the children who spoke in front of their classmates about why they should be considered as a representative for their class.
Ancient Greece
Children in 4H are really enjoying their history topic, learning all about life in Ancient Greece. Today they looked at secondary sources to learn all about daily life in Ancient Greece and then presented their findings to their peers.
If you are interested in finding out more about the PFA, or would like to join, please speak to Sophie in the office.
