Message From Mr. Pertzborn
Dear Lodi Middle School Students and Families,
As we embrace the season of Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many things we are grateful for here in the School District of Lodi.
First and foremost, I am incredibly thankful for our dedicated staff, who work tirelessly to support students in their academic, social, and emotional growth. Your children bring so much joy and energy to our school, and their enthusiasm truly brightens our halls every day. I am also deeply grateful for the trust and partnership of our families—your support is invaluable as we work together to nurture and educate our students.
While winter break is just around the corner, there’s still plenty of learning and discovery ahead. Let’s continue to build on the momentum as we finish 2024 on a high note!
Thank you for being such an essential part of our school community.
Take care and see you soon!

Inclement Weather - Virtual Learning Expectations
With winter around the corner, school may be canceled due to inclement weather. In most situations, the district plans to use two days of school as regular days off. If the district has additional inclement weather days, we will provide students with virtual instruction on those days to meet our state required hours of instruction. As always, the district will prioritize in-person learning experiences for our students whenever possible.
Students will be trained on the expectations for a virtual learning day in December. We will also review these expectations if it looks like a virtual learning day is possible in the near future. Staff will work with students to make sure that they send home their Chromebooks and classroom materials to make it a productive learning experience.

8th Grade - Course Scheduling Night @ LHS - LGI 6 pm
It is hard to believe, but it is time for 8th grade families to start thinking about their student's transition to high school. To support this process, we invite 8th grade parents to a special presentation on Tuesday, January 7, at 6:00 PM in the Lodi High School Performing Arts Center. The presentation will feature Lodi High School Principal Joe Jelinek and cover essential topics, including class schedules, A/B schedule overview, grading policies, Infinite Campus, Align by Design, the Laude System, student support services, and co-curricular opportunities.
We encourage all 8th grade families to join us and learn more about how to support your child's transition to high school.
Lodi Middle School Holiday Concert
Lodi Middle School will hold its winter concert on Thursday, December 12, in the Lodi High School Performing Arts Center. We are excited to showcase our talented students and see the hard work they put in each day. As an audience, our job is to create a positive atmosphere for the performers. Let's remember to cheer as loud as possible to show appreciation for our amazing musicians and show them what Lodi Pride looks like!

Lodi Middle School Holiday Concert Treat Donations
The Lodi Music Boosters is a parent-driven group, working to provide funding for ALL levels of Music Education within the School District of Lodi. Our hope is for all students to have the opportunity to explore and love music, from Kindergarten through High School, and beyond. In recent years, the Lodi Music Boosters have been able to offset student and teacher costs for a variety of requests, including classroom needs, tuition for student clinics and camps, meals and ticket prices for field trips, Senior scholarships, and more. Your contribution of one dozen treats helps raise donations at our school concerts, so we may continue to provide funds for our young musicians.
Please click on this SignUpGenius and review the available slots. You may drop off your snacks or treats at the PAC Ticket Booth that day, before your child's scheduled performance time.
Thank you for your donation and continuing support of the Lodi Music Boosters!
How to Support My Child in Middle School
One way to support your middle school student is by fostering a shared understanding of the importance of academic achievement. Show that you value their education by regularly monitoring their progress and effort. While students may have varying skill levels in different subjects, emphasizing a growth mindset is crucial. Remind your student that skills can improve over time with consistent effort. As a parent, you can support this by encouraging them to give their best each day and reinforcing the belief that hard work leads to growth.
Things to Ask Your Kids....(3 Questions Each Month)
Here are three questions to ask your teen this week to get them to open up:
1. Are there any clubs, sports, or extracurricular activities you are thinking about joining?
2. What is the most exciting thing you learned recently?
3. Who is someone you have built a relationship with this school year?
Lodi Santa Project
Hello Families,
Each year, families in our district are offered support during the holiday season through the Lodi Santa Project. This project has been around for 30+ years providing local families in need with gifts, cold weather gear and other necessities anonymously for those who might otherwise go without. Last year we helped over 40 families with more than 100 children. These are especially difficult times for many families in our community. If you, or any family that you know who are part of the Lodi School District would benefit from this project, please reach out to the program coordinator, Pam Cunningham, directly via email at lodisantaproject@gmail.com. All information is kept strictly confidential.
Families who would like to support the Lodi Santa Project financially or who would like to sponsor a child or family can also contact Pam at the email address above. Monetary donations as well as donations such as socks, mittens, hats, books, teen friendly gift cards, board games, crafts, etc. are always appreciated!
Spelling Bee
Lodi Middle School will be running a school wide spelling bee beginning in early December. The spelling bee winner at the Lodi Middle School will then participate in a regional competition in February. Students who would like to participate will be provided words from their Language Arts teacher. Thanks to 8th Grade Language Arts teacher Patty Heinzmann and Library Assistant Laurie Gwynne for volunteering their time to organize this opportunity for our students.
Cold Weather - Recess
As the weather begins to change, please be sure that your child is bringing proper clothing to stay warm. We have had a beautiful fall so far, but we all realize that is going to be changing soon (except some middle school children :)). We will be sending students outside nearly every day for recess. The only reason students will not go outside is if it is raining or if the temperature is below 0 degrees (we will also take wind chill into account). Students are generally outside for recess for 10-20 minutes. If your student needs a jacket for winter please let me know and we will get them one. If you know of another student who might need one, please pass that information along my way.

Attendance Matters
Attendance - Mondays
Returning to school on Mondays or after a break can sometimes feel like a challenge, especially after a relaxing weekend. Disrupted sleep schedules over the weekend often make waking up on Monday morning more difficult, impacting students' energy levels and focus. However, starting the week on the right foot is essential for maintaining a positive routine and staying on top of academic responsibilities. Mondays set the tone for the rest of the week, and being present helps students to avoid falling behind on assignments and classroom discussions. Parents can support a smooth transition to Monday by encouraging consistent sleep schedules, limiting late night activities on Sundays, and helping their students prepare for the week ahead.
Attendance Protocol
This is a reminder of the importance of reporting an absence if a student is going to be missing from school. Families can complete the Absence Form (button below) instead of calling or emailing the office; however, if you have questions or are unable to complete this form, you can still call the attendance line: (608) 592-3854 x 0 or email the school office at msoffice@lodischoolswi.org.
This form is also accessible through the Lodi Middle School Homepage with the link that says "Report an Absence" on the main page.

Happy Holidays!
The snow is flying and winter is here! You know what that means-time for the holidays!
We had our turkey dinner this week-sorry for those that missed it-delicious.
Our Harvest of the month features for December are cranberries, brussel sprouts, and sorrel. Sorrel is a light herb with leaves like spinach with a lemony scent. Please watch for our featured items on the menu throughout the month. Make sure and try them so you know whether you like it or not!
We will have a holiday Ham dinner in December also with a treat if you take a complete meal. Watch for the Christmas sprinkle long john also featured on a Friday.
Please remember to visit our salad bar when you take lunch. We have a variety of fruits and vegetables including the lettuce you grow for you to try. In order to get the meal price of $3.20 you must take a half cup of fruit or vegetable. Otherwise you get charged ala carte and it is more expensive. If there is something you would like to see on your salad bar please let us know and we will try and get it on there. We want you to eat your fruits and vegetables!
So we will decorate our kitchens with glitter and lights and make it all nice. Remember to be grateful for all that we have and all the good food we get to eat. Let’s help those less fortunate and keep them in our prayers. It is a special time of year and I hope you all get what you want for Christmas but most of all I hope you spend it with family and friends and fill your heart full of joy!
Happy Holidays Everyone!
