High School Life Skills Students Launch Panther Candle Company
Students in Jamie McFaul's High School Life Skills class are gaining employability skills through their classroom business, Panther Candle Company.
"The students are able to learn from every step of the process, from taking polls on which scents everyone likes and graphing the information, to placing wicks and packaging orders," said McFaul. "I have been so proud of how they have handled the whole process, honestly they blew me away with what they were able to accomplish. They have been such a joy to watch and they are so excited to work on this project."
The students far exceeded their original goal, selling more than 550 candles this fall. "I was totally blown away by our community's support," McFaul said. Panther Candle Company plans to sell candles at specific times throughout the year with the proceeds benefiting their classroom and activities.
Disney Villain Project
Students in Susan Curtis's AP Language and Composition classes recently completed a Disney Villain Project. In this two-part project students were assigned one of 15 villains from Disney animated films. They completed a rhetorical analysis one-pager over a song or speech by the villain and prepared a short presentation arguing why the assigned villain should be considered the best Disney villain ever. Jonathan Zavala won in his class period with Honest John from Pinocchio, and Jack Cooper won in his class period with Tamatoa from Moana.
