Greetings New Hope High School Champions and Families
Hello September!
As the days quickly pass by, we want to ensure that every moment your child spends on campus is productive, whether they're engaging in their in-person classes or working on credit recovery through Edgenuity. With over seven hours of school each day, it’s crucial that this time is used effectively to recover missing credits and stay on track for graduation.
One significant challenge we face is the distraction of cell phones. Research shows that frequent cell phone use can significantly detract from academic performance. According to a study by the National Bureau of Economic Research, students who use their phones during class have lower grades compared to their peers who do not. Additionally, a survey conducted by Common Sense Media found that 70% of teachers report that students' phones are a major distraction in the classroom.
To maximize learning, students are expected to keep their phones off during class and credit recovery sessions. If you need to contact your child, please reach out to the office, and we will ensure that your message is delivered and your child can return your call at an appropriate time.
We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to focus on their schoolwork and keep their phones away while in class. Let’s work together to make the most of every school day.
Much Love,
Gina Hutchins
DAILY ATTENDANCE
Daily attendance is CRUCIAL. It shows respect and responsibility, and we track attendance in every class each day. If a student is marked absent, parents will get a notification from ParentVue/ParentSquare. When a student arrives late, they must call their parents to let them know.
Missing school can lead to poor habits and falling farther behind, which might affect their graduation. Just like a job, school teaches students to be on time, follow instructions, and work well with others. While they may not earn a paycheck now, they are learning valuable skills that will help them in the future. If you have concerns about your child's attendance, please contact us right away so we can work together to address the issue.
