Greetings from Ms. Gerdes
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! You can see below our first graders have been making predictions and wrapped the season with Football Friday last week. They have been integrating football into their skills and learning. My Texas Tech days make me a Mahomes fan so of course I have to root for him! Regardless of the outcome, I hope everyone has a safe, fun evening as the football season comes to a close.
Stay well! We are seeing so many illnesses at school. My home, included! My youngest turns 16 today (sniff, sniff) and his birthday weekend has been postponed due to his illness. It is hard to avoid but we are doing our best to keep our campus safe and clean. Please review Nurse Andrea's message below if you have not already. Help us teach our Texans healthy habits are for home, school, and everywhere.
Our Monday morning last week began with so much excitement! Schroeder Orthodontics visited us for Dental Health. I had reports that students went home and set their 2 minute timer to brush 2x a day! Yippee! After the teeth talk, the Creature Teacher brought out some critters as he shared about their dental care - we enjoyed the animals! Last Tuesday we celebrated the 100th day. Prek - 1st graders celebrated with fun content-based activities. The entire school was searching high and low for the 100 armadillos roaming the halls to put together on our 100th Day of School chart. On Wednesday the entire 5th grade went to CMS to tour the fine arts options. It was an excellent peek into middle school life (the passing period, lockers, fine arts choices) and I am grateful our Texans were able to experience just a taste of middle school life. It was also fun for Mrs. Perkins and I to visit our alma mater (back in the 80s). On Friday, interim test results were sent home with our students in grades 3-5. Check their backpacks. Additionally, our Dads Club hosted our Super Cereal Bowl III with special guest Chief Miller! Our dads worked tirelessly to fill up bowls with cereal and circulate the cafeteria with varieties of milk. It was so fun having our students come together before the day began to fill their bellies with a cereal treat!
This coming week we will hold our Valentine's Carnivals during specials on Thursday. Parents are welcome to attend the grade level Carnival time to volunteer and visit with their children. Note that cards will be passed out in class during a special classroom community time. This will be for staff and students only. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher or myself. Remember Friday, 2/14 and Monday, 2/17 are student holidays.
We have a lot of fun coming up the next few weeks so pay close attention to the list of Upcoming Dates below. If you have any questions, concerns, or topics to discuss please do not hesitate to contact me at erin.gerdes@gcisd.net or 817-305-4920.
Enjoy your weekend! Go Chiefs! : )
