FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
We had a wonderful time at our annual Back to School BBQ this past Wednesday! Thank you to all of the families who were able to join us. It was a great way to kick-off the 23-24 school year!
Today, faculty and staff participated in our annual staff retreat. As a Catholic school, this time of prayer and reflection is essential in preparing for the start of a successful school year. The day included Mass, time for quiet prayer, and two presentations by Fr. Woolley. Know that we are praying for you and your families, and please pray for us too!
As we round out our Back to School events with Back to School Night on Tuesday evening the 29th and our Teach Day on Wednesday the 30th, please be sure to continue reading below for important information regarding these events.
Lastly, I want to share with you how excited and grateful I am for the start of a new school year. Of course, the start of the school year naturally includes some nervous anticipation and a longing for the ease of the summer months that have passed. Yet, looking ahead, I am filled with hope for the new year.
Indeed, in our Virtues in Practice program the upcoming school year is designated as the year of Hope, which the program defines as "trusting in God's loving plan." In the book of Jeremiah the Lord declares "I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." May Father Doyle School continue to prosper in the year ahead in accordance with God's loving plan!
Back to School Night Schedule Details
As previously communicated, there are two portions of our Back to School Night program. First, parent(s)/guardian(s) visit their child’s classroom. During this time, you are invited to drop off your child’s school supplies so they do not have to carry all supplies with them on the first day of school. Teachers will also provide information regarding their classroom, policies/procedures, instructional content, etc. for the upcoming year.
In order to accommodate families with children in multiple grade levels, there will be two classroom visit sessions. The first session will begin at 6:00pm and the second session will begin at 6:20pm.
Families with two students in separate grade levels should plan to attend the first session at 6:00pm for their older child and the second session at 6:20pm for their younger child. Families with only one student in the school should plan to attend ONLY the session beginning at 6:20pm and then continue to the presentation with Fr. Woolley and Mr. Peloquin. Families with three or more children in the school will receive additional communication regarding the timing for their sessions.
Lastly, please note that the middle school teaching team will be presenting together. Therefore, middle school parent(s)/guardian(s) only need to attend one classroom visit session with the entirety of the middle school team.
Following the 6:20pm classroom visit sessions, Fr. Woolley and Mr. Peloquin will be giving a brief presentation for all parent(s)/guardian(s) beginning at 6:40pm in the Church Hall.
Finally, unfortunately, we are not able to provide childcare during our Back to School Night program. Because all faculty participate in the Back to School Night events, we are not able to adequately staff a childcare program. We appreciate your understanding.
1st Annual Teach Day - Wednesday, August 30th
- The Teach Day is for all students in grades K-8. Pre-kindergarten students will have a separate orientation on the 30th.
- Teach Day is a non-uniform day. Students may wear comfortable clothes aligned with our non-uniform day policies.
- Teach Day begins at 8:30am and ends at 11:30am. There are no buses running during the Teach Day.
Drop-Off/Arrival for Teach Day
Students may arrive any time between 8:15am and 8:30am. For returning students and/or those students comfortable doing so, families may use the drop-off spaces in front of the gym. As a reminder, please do not use these spaces if you plan to exit your vehicle to assist your student with arrival. Parents may also park in the school lot and walk their students into the school.
Kindergarten: The kindergarten class will meet in the gym. Parents can use the side doors to the gym nearest the main entrance. Mrs. Zonfrilli, Mrs. DeCubellis, and Mr. Geoffroy will be there, along with a few middle school student assistants, to welcome students and participate in some games and activities to kick off the day.
Grades 1-5: Students in grades 1-5 should enter through the main entrance of the school. Parents are permitted to walk their children to the classroom door; however, we kindly ask that parents not enter the classroom or remain for extended periods in the hallways.
Grades 6-8: Middle school students should use the west wing/middle school entrance to the left of the main doors of the school. For new middle school students, staff will be available to direct them to the appropriate homeroom.
Dismissal for Teach Day
Dismissal will begin at 11:30am and will mimic a regular dismissal with the exception that there are no buses running. For a detailed map of dismissal locations, please click here.
Additional Details:
The goal of the Teach Day is to provide students with an opportunity to learn, engage with, and practice our new student formation policies and procedures - and have some fun along the way! The day will include a kick-off “pep rally” in the gym, an informational student-led video introduction, and plenty of time to review, discuss, and practice common expectations.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon! As always, be assured of my prayers for you and your families.
God bless and Go Saints!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peloquin
