- From Lorri Cefalone, Hopewell Valley YMCA, After School Enrichment Coordinator: I'm excited to announce our After School Enrichment Program Spring Session! We will begin the 7-week session the week of April 14th and programs will include Science, Chess, Cooking, Dance, Tennis, Golf, Lego programs, new Virtual Coding classes and more. Registration is open and will absolutely end on March 31st, so please mark your calendars and sign up before the classes fill up. - The Program in Teacher Preparation at Princeton University is partnering with the Council on Science and Technology to host a screening of the new movie Rule Breakers: "In a nation where educating girls is seen as rebellion, a visionary woman dares to teach young minds to dream." The film is based on the true story of the first all-female robotics team from Afghanistan and is an extraordinary story of resilience and hope sure to inspire audiences worldwide. The screening is on Friday, March 21 @ 3:30 in Lewis Auditorium in Robertson Hall, Princeton University Campus. - The Hopewell Valley Regional School District and Rutgers UBHC present "Habits for Building Healthy Minds". Hear from a licensed mental health clinician about ways to facilitate healthy minds in this zoom presentation for parents. Thursday, March 27th at 7pm. Click here to register.
- Raising a Self-Driven Child: A Talk with the Authors, April 9 at 7pm. Authors and presenters William Stixrud and Ned Johnson will be returning to the Hopewell Valley community to discuss how education and the mental health crisis in childhood have converged in the post pandemic years. Their latest book is The Seven Principles for Raising a Self-Driven Child. Q&A will follow. This is a free online event via Zoom sponsored by the Hopewell Valley Municipal Alliance. - The Hopewell Valley Mobile Food Pantry is celebrating it's 5th Year Anniversary at an Open House on Sunday, April 13th from 11am to 2 pm! We'll be thanking those already involved; educating people about the scope of our operations, and how they can become more involved; and discussing what lies ahead for the Pantry. Hopewell Valley Bulldog Blossom 5K, Saturday, March 22: The Hopewell Valley 5k is in its third year, and this will be the first year we’ve added a 1-mile fun run to the event. PARENTS: Is your student interested in pursuing a medical career after high school? If so, have them join Capital Health staff for an informal discussion about their nursing, EMT and radiology programs on Monday, March 17 during the lunch session in the Media Center.
Freshman/Sophomore Semi-Formal: Final sales of tickets for the Freshman/Sophomore Semi-Formal will take place during lunch on Monday. This fun-filled event featuring music, games, and prizes is scheduled for Friday, March 21, from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Please review the event information and submit the attached permission slip prior to purchasing a ticket.
Wellness Fair: HVCHS is excited to partner with the Hopewell Valley Municipal Alliance on March 18 for our annual Wellness Fair, in which our freshmen and juniors have the opportunity to visit with over 25 local organizations to receive information about wellness-related topics. We appreciate the efforts of the Municipal Alliance as well as our ongoing partnership with the surrounding community.
Chromebook Update: Due to a limited supply of “loaner” Chromebooks, the Technology Department will no longer be able to issue devices to students who have forgotten their device or have failed to charge it. Replacement Chromebooks will only be issued in the event that the student’s device is broken and needs to be submitted for repair. Please remind your child to bring their fully charged, district issued Chromebook to school each day!
Spring Athletics: Over 300 student-athletes are participating in spring sports at HVCHS, which include boys tennis, girls and boys lacrosse, baseball, softball, boys volleyball, and track. Please review our daily athletic schedule and come out to support the Bulldogs!
- Absences, Late Arrivals, & Early Dismissals: Parents/Guardians should call our TeleSafe number 609-737-4003, Ext 2, by 8:00 am to report an absence or late arrival. Please provide a note if your child needs to be dismissed from school early. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors MUST be signed out by a parent or guardian before leaving the building. Please also review our attendance procedures for details about the district policies. *As a reminder, students must be in school for at least four hours in order to participate in all athletic or extra-curricular activities and events*

BT Kids Heart Challenge - Do you know how to save a life? Every year, over 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur, which means bystanders like you may need to step in and help save a life. Through the Kids Heart Challenge, we've partnered with the American Heart Association to build a community of lifesavers here at Bear Tavern. So far, we have 168 students who signed up, 38 who have learned Hands-Only, and 19 who have completed Finn’s Mission. Our National Heart Warrior, Finn, is here to guide you through lifesaving steps like Hands-Only CPR and how to spot the signs of a stroke. Be sure to SHARE what you’ve learned with Friends and family via text, CPR video, email, or social media. Download the AHA Schools app or go to Bear Tavern’s Page And complete all seven steps of Finn’s Mission!

ReadaFun - Our BT Reading Raiser is like a jog-a-thon, except your child will be reading books instead of running laps and earning pledges based on how much they read. HES Coin Wars - Get ready for some friendly competition—Grade-Level Coin Wars is coming to HES from March 17th-21st! Teams K/5 vs. 1/4 vs. 2/3 will battle it out with coins only, raising funds for Student Council and Green Team projects, with the winner announced at the Spring Pep Rally!

SB Read-A-Fun Read-A-Thon Kicked Off on Wed, 3/12!
All students had paperwork sent home this week on how to log into the online platform to record reading minutes and books read. Our school-wide goals this year are 200,000 minutes and $5,000 raised over the five-week program, which ends on Friday, April 11. If our students reach the reading goal, they will win an all-school prize: a pajama and movie day in April! The entire school will watch a movie together in their comfy PJs, and the SB PTO will supply snacks! Please encourage your children to read and get sponsors to support this fun initiative!

Toll Gate Green Week Student Expo: Our fourth annual Toll Gate Green Week Student Expo will be held on Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22nd. Students in grades 3-5 are invited, but not required, to create a project around a Global Climate Issue to present at the Student Expo. Students in grades K-5 will visit the Green Week Student Expo during school hours to learn about Global Climate Issues. Parents will also be invited to visit the Student Expo, which will be held in the gym, on Tuesday, April 22nd from 3 - 3:30 pm. View this slide deck for more information. Reporting Student Absences: Please remember to call the Telsafe line 609-737-4008, option 2) by 8:00am for any absences or tardiness. Emails to a teacher may not be seen in a timely manner. Telsafe is the best way to report an absence. If your child is not at school and you haven’t reported them absent or tardy, you will get a phone call from Mrs. Smith, our school nurse.

Community Programs & Events
Hopewell Valley Swim America is a learn-to-swim program developed by the American Swim Coaches Association. It is a structured lesson program that allows kids to progress at their own rate through 10 stations. CHS Swim Coach Dennis Atkinson is running this program from April 1st-29th. - Hopewell Township Parks & Recreation: Spring and Summer Guide 2025 is here! Upcoming Children's programs include: Tennis, Skateboarding, Multi-Sports. Summer Programs are also listed in our "Summer Camps & Programs" section.
- Hopewell Valley Jr. Bulldogs Youth Spring Flag Football Registration is open. Spring flag sessions are open to boys and girls in Kindergarten thru 8th Grade. Each session consists of instruction and game play between participants. Click here for more information.
- Workhorse Rides at Howell Living History Farm, March 15th, 10am-4pm. Kids 5-12 will learn about draft, saddle, and carriage horses; take rides, and help with barn chores.
- Family Concert: Meet the Music: Inspector Pulse Takes His Pulse, Sat. March 15th, 1pm, For Ages 6-12 and their families with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The world’s greatest and only private ear, Inspector Pulse, inspects his own pulse and discovers the rhythm of life—the heartbeat! This leads him to explore stethoscopes and metronomes as well as a marimba, and concepts like tempo, beat, and polyrhythm!
- Celebrate Pi Day & Einstein's birthday at Pi Day Princeton 2025! March 14th & 15th! Click on the link for a comprehensive listing of local events!
- Princeton Public Library: Einstein Exploration Stations: March 15th, For Ages 5-10, 2-4pm. The Princeton Einstein Museum of Science presents activities and challenges, and a chance to interact with a Princeton University physicist, at this Pi Day event.
- The Wonder of the Night Sky, The Watershed, March 15th, 7-9pm: Adults will enjoy a program about the wonder of the night sky and inspiring efforts to reduce light pollution in our own area. Meanwhile, children will join Watershed Educators to learn about the cosmos and nocturnal creatures through fun games and activities. Everyone will come together for a night hike and guided star gazing.
- Hopewell Valley Children’s Theatre proudly presents Disney’s Little Mermaid, Jr! Performances are on March 21 and 22, at 7:00 PM and March 23, at 2:00 PM. All shows are at the PAC at Hopewell Valley Central High School. Over 65 children from the district want you to join them under the sea! - Robotics Workshop @ the Pennington Public Library: Saturday, March 22 from 2-3 pm: Meet student leaders from the CHS Robotics Team and the First Lego League who will introduce us to their robots and describe how they use STEAM skills to design, create and compete. - Hopewell Recreation is excited to offer a Skateboard Camp over HVRSD Spring Break will be held March 31-April 4, from 9am-12 noon. Open to all skill levels and will be held at the Skate Park in the Hopewell Township Municipal Complex. Participants are required to bring a skateboard (no penny boards), and can contact Old School Skateboard at osoutdoorsnj@gmail.com if your child currently does not have one. Hopewell Valley Lacrosse: Spring 2025 Registration is open for our HVL 3-8th Girls/ Boys Teams and Little Laxers. Open to boys and girls ages K-8th grade, HVL’s Program provides developmental lacrosse instruction for boys and girls, K-8th grade of all skill levels.
Hopewell Valley Soccer Association: Spring 2025 Rec Soccer is Open! For children ages 2-18. Program will run from 4/13-5/25, with the exceptions of Eater and Memorial Day Weekends. HVSA Travel Tryouts will begin the week of March 24th for the '25-'26 season.

ArtSparks Summer: Summer Camp at Art Sparks provides theme-based creative experiences during which children get to explore a variety of media such as acrylics, collage, watercolors, pastels, charcoal, printmaking, sculpture, assemblage, colored pencils, clay and more.
Champs Camp Great Outdoors: Welcome to a whole new immersive summer experience. We’re elevating day camp to Champion status. Picture a mix of explorations in nature with brainy STEM challenges, fabulous field trips, and games galore!

Garden Theatre, Princeton "Film Camp": The Garden Theatre is hosting two different week-long film camp experiences this summer. Our “Elements of Film” curriculum, which launched last year, will be returning. We will also be debuting a new week-long curriculum, “Intro to Filmmaking.”

Hopewell Swim & Tennis Sumer 2025: Registration is Open for Firefly and Tennis Camps! An ideal balance of sports and fun summer activities with instructional programs created for all ages and skill levels.
Hopewell Valley YMCA Summer Camp: offers high-quality summer day camp programming to meet the needs of the community. Campers will learn teamwork, embrace their artistic side, develop their sports skill sets and engage in their love of STEM activities and more.
Hun Day Camp: Campers will explore Hun’s 45-acre campus through eco-nature walks and field games, and use some of our academic buildings for art & crafts, mini-STEM projects, performing arts, LEGO builds, and weekly design challenges.

The Watershed Nature Camp - Campers will spend most of their time exploring our 950-acre Watershed Reserve of fields, forests, trails, ponds, and streams. They will also have access to the exhibits and animal ambassadors inside the nature center
The Watershed Summer Academy for High School Students: Each five-day session engages students in a world of science where they ask questions and identify problems, gain skills and knowledge.
