It’s amazing to think we’re nearing the end of 2024! After winter break, we’ll be just two short weeks away from wrapping up Semester 1. I hope you all take time over the break to relax, enjoy the company of family and friends, and create some beautiful memories. Wishing you a safe, joyful, and restful holiday season.

In 2024, out of over 25,500 applications, 7,288 students were selected as National College Match Finalists. Finalists exhibit outstanding academic achievement and qualify financially. Questbridge partners with over 50 prestigious colleges and universities who fund the Match Scholarship. The Match Scholarship provided by the college covers the full cost of attendance, including: full tuition, room and board, books and supplies, and travel expenses.

On December 18, Hood River Valley High School will practice a lockdown drill in partnership with our local law enforcement agencies. These drills are an essential part of our commitment to keeping students and staff safe by preparing for emergencies.

We understand that practicing these procedures can feel stressful or scary, especially in light of the recent school shooting elsewhere in the country. Our thoughts are with those impacted by this tragedy, and we are mindful of how this news may affect students and families. Please know that our staff will approach this drill with care and support for students.

During the drill:

• No access will be allowed in or out of the building.
• Phones will not be answered as we focus on the drill procedures.
• The drill is expected to take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

If your student has concerns about the drill, please encourage them to speak with a trusted staff member or counselor. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize safety and ensure everyone knows what to do in an emergency.

The ASPIRE program helps educate Oregon students to become career and college ready. ASPIRE offers education, resources, and mentoring opportunities for all students. Student supports include 1:1 and group mentoring, activities or events that focus on career exploration, career and college research, admissions applications, scholarships, and financial aid.

At Hood River Valley High School, the ASPIRE Program partners with our school counseling team to provide support to students and parents. The ASPIRE Program is part of the SUMMIT Career Center working closely with our TRIO and CTE programs, along with AVID and the entire HRVHS Staff. All students are welcome to visit and/or reach out to our ASPIRE Coordinator, Meleah Bauman, at any appropriate time. Students can schedule appointments via Ms Bauman's Calendly Link https://calendly.com/meleah-bauman/30min, can schedule into her WIN time, or drop by during passing time and lunch.

The HRVHS ASPIRE team includes volunteer mentors for students who need additional 1:1 support with college and career guidance. If a student is interested in matching with a mentor, they can pick up a parent permission slip from Ms Bauman in the SUMMIT Office.

HRVHS will offer an optional opportunity for any sophomore to take the pre-ACT test at school on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025. There is no charge to take the test.

The registration deadline is January 17, 2025. If students would like to participate in this test, please complete this registration form.

To participate, the student must be a currently enrolled sophomore at HRVHS or HROA. For more information click the links below.
