PACK Guardians,
On behalf of the Hubbard PACK, we are extremely excited to start this year and have your Husky at the new Hubbard campus! I have been working this summer to plan a phenomenal year for your student including awesome learning opportunities and many other impactful experiences. I will be asking more from my guardians this year, I want everyone off the bench and in the game to make sure our campus shines! We are excited to partner with you to ensure your student's success. Please make sure you read this newsletter each week so you stay informed and up to date. Here are some beginning of the year important updates:
Hubbard Guardian Handbook - Please review this document so you are informed of our specific policies including dress code, A/B day schedule, and Bell Schedule. All of these are also located on the Hubbard Website under "documents." Here are a few changes from last year:
- Chromebooks (p.15) - There are MANY reasons why we chose to change our chromebook policy including cost of damages, cost of lost chargers, time dealing with those issues, persistent misusage outside of school hours, lack of access on testing days, etc. but I wanted you to know we will not be issuing Chromebooks to each individual student. Instead, they will be kept within the classrooms for student access. My media technology specialist, Mr. Pino, share the quote with me that "The internet doesn't just give your child access to the world, it gives the world access to your child." I thought that was impactful. We will be communicating a method for students to check them out through the media center if they are needed for instructional purposes outside of school hours.
- Drop off/pickup (p.16-17) - The complete Hubbard MS construction, including competition football field/track and parking lots, will not be finalized until Summer of 2025. Currently, all students will enter through the front doors, including bus riders. Please make sure you understand the pick up/drop off procedures and traffic flow. Yes, it is going to take more time the first week, but everyone will adjust quickly!
- 8th grade recognition requirements (p.8-9) - In order to hold students to the highest standards for their academics and behaviors, we have adjusted our 8th grade recognition requirements. Please review these with your 8th grader.
School Supplies -Please make sure your student is prepared by having purchased their school supplies in accordance with their grade level. If you are in need of financial assistance, please reach out directly to the campus.
Meet the teacher - We are excited to have students in our NEW building meeting our awesome teachers! As we do not currently have adequate event parking, businesses around us are allowing us to use their space. Please see the map further down in the newsletter.
Math summer assignments - If your child is taking Algebra 1 PAP, Geometry PAP, or Algebra 2 PAP at Tyler Legacy, then they have summer work to do! Click on the link to download it.
Teacher/Schedule Requests - Please understand that a massive amount of work goes into scheduling, and while we would love to create the absolute perfect schedule for each student, we simply cannot hand schedule all student preferences. Thank you for understanding that we do not open the door for teacher requests. This policy will continue into high school at Legacy.
Online Registration - Will your child attend Tyler ISD next year? If that answer is yes, YOU MUST REGISTER THEM ONLINE! It does not carry over from year to year. You can follow these online registration steps to make sure your child is accounted for next year.
