Ebenezer Elementary School
November 2024
Message from the Principal
Dear Ebenezer Families,
During October, Ebenezer students and staff celebrated Red Ribbon Week. The week-long event included a variety of activities to promote the theme, βLife is a Movie, Live Drug Freeβ and concluded with a fun faculty vs. student soccer game. Thank you to the Red Ribbon Committee for planning an exciting week of themed events for the students and staff. In recognition of Apple Crunch Day, all Ebenezer students received a bag of sliced apples. We also celebrated Fire Prevention Day. Glenn Lebanon, Rural Security, Ebenezer and Weavertown Fire Companies came to Ebenezer and showed off their trucks, held assemblies, and ate lunch with our students.
This month, we will be collecting non-perishable food items to donate to a local Lebanon County food bank. The "FEED OUR FLOCK" program will take place from November 4th β 20th. Don't forget to send in items with your children and watch our turkeys grow! (See the suggested list of non-perishable foods listed in this newsletter). Parent/teacher conferences for parents/guardians of students in grades K through 5th will take place on Monday, November 25th (2PM-9PM) and Tuesday, November 26th (8AM-3PM). The online registration closes at 4 PM on November 11th. Your child's academic success is very important and we look forward to working together to achieve this goal. Please make sure to read about our NEW report cards in this newsletter.
There will be no book fair at Ebenezer this year during conferences. INSTEAD, the district will be holding a district-wide book fair at Cedar Crest Middle School during parent-teacher conferences.

Revised Report Cards
We are excited to share our revised standards-based report cards with you for grades K-5. This student-centered approach is designed to provide clearer and more detailed feedback on your childβs progress in relation to grade-level standards. This system will provide you with focused feedback in each content area regarding your studentβs strengths and needs while providing a clear indication of growth from marking period to marking period. These report cards are updated to reflect skills in our standards-aligned, board-approved curriculum in all core areas (i.e., English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies)β.
Our new grading scale will use the following indicators:
3 - Consistently Meeting Grade-Level Expectations
- A "3" indicates that currently, performance is characterized by a thorough understanding of concepts and skills.
2 - Progressing to Grade-Level Expectations
- A "2" indicates that performance varies regarding consistency and level of support needed.
1 - Not Yet Meeting Grade-Level Expectations
- A "1" indicates that performance is inconsistent with guidance and support.
Blank - Not assessed during the marking period
These indicators are designed to show where your child is in their learning journey, encouraging a focus on improvement over time rather than on a single letter grade. Report cards are an important way for us to communicate with families, and we want to provide meaningful feedback in an easy-to-understand format.
We recognize that transitioning to a different report card format may raise questions. Please donβt hesitate to reach out to me directly with any questions you have regarding our standards-based report cards.

Samantha Dundore - Elementary General and Vocal Music
Hello!
The Holiday Concert featuring the chorus and show choir is coming up next month on Wednesday, December 11th. They will have a concert at 2:30pm for the school, and a concert at 7:00pm for parents, family, and friends. If your child is in one or both of those groups, now is the time to start thinking about concert attire for the performances.
For performances, concert attire is black and white. Students are to wear some type of plain white shirt or blouse (Please NO t-shirts or jeans), and nice dress shoes (NO sneakers, if possible). Due to walking/standing on risers and Show Choir dancing on the stage, I do not recommend high heels be worn. Girls who are in Show Choir may wear a dress, but MUST have black leggings on underneath as they will be moving around on stage.
You can also find this information by going to my website, https://ebmusicroom.weebly.com/, and clicking on βChorus.β
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. The students are working hard to put on a great concert for everyone!

5 Tips to Help Kids FALL in Love with Nonfiction!
Nonfiction will play an important role in your childβs academic journey, especially as they move from learning to read to reading to learn. Thatβs why itβs so important for kids to develop a passion for reading nonfiction books! Whether your child is a beginning reading or more advanced, these five tips will help build excitement for all things nonfiction!
1. Let your child choose the nonfiction books they want to read!
When it comes to building confidence and excitement about reading, personal choice is key no matter the genre!
2. Use books to answer questions.
Questions give children a purpose for reading and motivation to find answers in text!
3. Connect fiction with nonfiction.
Introduce a topic in fiction to spark curiosity and pair with nonfiction, for example How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight and Fly Guy Presents: Dinosaurs
4. Explain nonfiction features.
It is important to go over the many different learning features nonfiction books use to engage readers such as headings, table of contents, real photographs, captions, glossaries, and an index.
5. Use the library (digital and in person!).
Keep nonfiction books available at your childβs fingertips in print and on their devices by checking out books at your local library and favorite download resource. Free books are always available for you to expand your love of nonfiction!
