Columbus Online Academy Mission
The Columbus Online Academy 9-12 is a school for students that prefer an online learning environment with the periodic option for in-person support, assessment completion, and engaging and enriching learning experiences. By focusing on collaboratively developed core values of critical thinking, originality, advocacy, and kindness, all students will learn and earn credit for every class.

Columbus Mobile Produce Markets are Back!
Columbus Recreation and Parks Department offers Free Mobile Produce Markets throughout the year. The markets are staffed by volunteers who can assist with the produce so you can load it directly into your trunk or car.
Free Mobile Produce Markets take place at the following community centers through December.
First Thursday: Barack, Douglas, Glenwood and Sullivant Gardens
First Friday: Marion Franklin and Scioto Southland
Second Thursday: Dodge and Holton
Second Friday: Barnett and Far East
Third Thursday: Linden and Tuttle
Third Friday: Adams and Beatty
Fourth Thursday: Feddersen and Howard
This schedule may change due to holidays.
Distribution at all sites begins at 3 p.m. and runs while supplies last.

Affording Housing Resource Fair
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH • 11 A.M. - 3 P.M.
Please join the Franklin County Auditor’s Office on Saturday, September 30, from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for the Affordable Housing Resource Fair! Many Central Ohio organizations that provide a wide range of affordable, accessible, and high-quality housing and social services will be there to assist you with your needs.
Participants will include:
- Financial institutions present with information on mortgages and other assistance
- Home repair, down payment assistance and rental assistance programs
- Utility assistance programs
- Homebuying information
- Wellbeing and Health resources
- Legal resources
- Youth and family services
- and more!

Columbus Online Academy Fall Mixer - Friday, October 13th
Who: All COA students are invited.
What: In-person ice-breakers, crafts, games, and some school work.
When: October 13, from 9:00 am to 1:00 p.m.
Where: The COA space at Walnut Ridge High School, 4841 E Livingston Avenue Columbus, OH 43227. We are located under the library. Go down the outside stairs at the front of the school, and our door will be at the bottom of the stairs to the left.
Why: To have fun, see your teachers and classmates in person, get some free snacks and food, and maybe win some prizes! You will also earn 10 internship hours for attending.
How: You need to find your own transportation to and from the school.
Bring (optional) a water bottle and any snacks if you have special dietary needs. Bring your computer, iPad, or other electronic device for our Kahoot! or for help with school work.

Board Meeting at Independence HS - Open Discussion Opportunity
TUESDAY, October 17, 2023 - 5:15 P.M.
Community Board Meeting Dates:
- 10/17: Independance HS
- 11/28: Briggs HS
- 12/19: Marion - Franklin HS
Families are encouraged to attend the Board of Education meeting at Independence HS on October 17th beginning at 6pm. There will be a 30-minute open discussion time held from 5:15pm - 5:45pm where families and community members can speak to board members without signing up ahead of time.
Families are always welcome to attend regular board meetings at 3700 S. High St. but must sign up to speak by 3:45pm the day of the meeting. For a full list of board meeting dates, please visit: Board of Education / Homepage (ccsoh.us)

Family and Community Engagement Series (FACES)
Columbus City Schools proudly presents FACES, the online Family and Community Engagement Series program created to inform and connect families, the community, and schools. You can find FACES, the Family and Community Engagement series, exclusively on CCS's Facebook and YouTube channels.
On Tuesday, FACES talked about College and Career Readiness in 2023 and beyond. If you missed it, no worries! You can watch the recording of the video below.
A new FACES episode will be available on October 10th. Stay tuned!
Free Passes to Area Attractions
Columbus Zoo, Ohio History Connection, Art Museum, Franklin Park Conservatory, BalletMet, Columbus Symphony Orchestra and more!
Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) offers its cardholders free admission to select central Ohio cultural institutions. The program enables CML customers to borrow passes just as they would a book: using their library card. This onetime pass, which must be checked out in person, grants customers limited free access to institutions that would otherwise charge admission fees.
Customers can check their availability at columbuslibrary.org by typing “Culture Pass” into the catalog search bar.

Online tutors are available Monday-Friday, 2-11 p.m. (There are even tutors available to sharpen your chess skills or to get live assistance in filling out your FAFSA!)
PAPER Tutoring
Need someone to talk through a particularly tough math problem? A Paper Tutor will be there to assist students within seconds. Need someone to read an essay and make suggestions on how you can improve it before submitting? A Paper Tutor will be there to assist students.
No matter what a student's academic needs are, Paper’s expert learning assistants are available to help 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Just log in and ask a question! Students can login through Clever by clicking on the Paper icon.

Family Ambassador
CCS has implemented Family Ambassadors in the schools in order to:
- Serve as liaisons between school and home, facilitating a partnership in support of student academic achievements.
- Coach and mentor families on how to be engaged members of the academic team.
- Advise and train families on how to address issues and advocate on behalf of their children’s education.
- Connect families to community-based services, school counselors, and/or social workers.
- Expand volunteer opportunities.
- Maintain open communications with families regarding important school information.
