CIS Weekly Updates
2024-2025: #1 August 26 - 30, 2024
#2: September 2-6, 2024
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Thank you to all families who were able to attend open house this past Thursday. We appreciate your support and know that our experience with students is better when we are partnered with you! If you were unable to attend, then we understand. Here is the presentation that was shared at the beginning. If you have any specific questions then please reach out to the teachers and/or me.
Are you looking for something to do for a couple of hours daily? Well, CIS is looking for an additional lunch and recess aide. The position is from 11:00-1:00 on school days and will involve supervising students during lunch and recess. If you are interested, please send me an email at bcobb@wadsworthschools.org.
If you pick your son/daughter up from school during the school day, you must go through our attendance desk to facilitate picking up your student. The safety of our students is essential, and we need to know when they are leaving and with who. You can come to the main entrance and sign out your son/daughter. Our attendance clerk, Laura Long, will track down your students and help make sure they are signed out correctly. I appreciate your understanding.
Are you looking to surprise your son or daughter's teacher? I have a list of our staff favorites that may help you. I surveyed our teachers, and they shared their favorite snacks and drinks. This list is not intended to prompt you to do something special for staff. It is a tool just in case you need ideas. *This list was voluntary, so it may not include all teachers.
Have a WONDERFUL Week!
Brandon Cobb, Principal
CHOIR WELCOME FROM MRS. MUHL
Welcome to CHOIR:
I hope after our first rehearsal this week your child is interested in joining choir this year! We had some great rehearsals! Please ask your child about the choir handbook that was passed out. I have plenty at school, but here is the link to the choir handbook, if you wish to print it out as well. I would like the permission slip returned by the end of this week (9/6/25) if possible. We highly encourage students to try both band and choir and we divide our fine arts time up to accommodate both.
BOTH 5th and 6th-grade students need to return the handbook permission slip, AND please sign up for Remind for the correct choir and have your children join the choir Google Classroom for their grade. I look forward to an outstanding year of singing!!! If you have any questions, please email Amy Muhl at amuhl@wadsworthschools.org

WELCOME TO CIS PHYSICAL EDUCATION FROM MRS. MINICK
Welcome to CIS! My name is Mrs. Minick and I will be your child’s PE teacher this year. If you would like to know more about me or my PE class, be sure to click this link for my Welcome Newsletter. Here is the link to September’s encore rotation schedule. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at mminick@wadsworthschools.org
SPIRIT SALES - FRIDAY
Friday is the Wadsworth Grizzly football team's first home game. To celebrate, our PTO will host spirit sales during lunch on Friday. If you student would like to purchase something then please have him/her bring some money with them to lunch/recess on Friday.
COMMUNITY PLAYGROUND NAMING CHALLENGE
FROM WADSWORTH CITY: We're excited to invite you to help us name the new community playground that is replacing the former Kaleidoscope Playground. While we've been using "Destination Playground" as a temporary name during the design and construction phases, we want to hear ideas from Wadsworth residents and students before choosing a final name.
The playground features the match theme and much of the equipment is in Wadsworth red. A link to a short fly-through video prepared by the City's playground equipment installer can be found HERE. It does a great job of depicting what the playground will look like once complete.
Please share your suggestions by completing the short survey HERE by Friday, September 13. Thank you for your participation!
COMMUNITY BEAM SIGNING EVENT:
Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 4, there will be a community beam signing event in the gravel parking lot outside the new intermediate school construction site. All are welcome to stop by between 6:00-7:30 pm to sign the beam that will go in the new school. *CIS students are already signing a beam today and tomorrow at CIS (see picture below).

CIS BACK PACK CONNECTION
You can help! Throughout the year we collect food items listed below and send bags home over the weekend for students in need. Please consider helping in this way because our students and families really appreciate the extra food over the weekends.
Character Strong
We are so grateful you are a part of the school community this year. One of the aims at our school is to equip young people for all the realities of today’s world. With that in mind, we have partnered with CharacterStrong - an organization that provides training for educators and social & emotional learning curriculum for students. Their work will focus on 3 main outcomes: increasing a sense of belonging for all students, improving skills that support student well-being, and deepening student engagement in their academics, in their school, and in their community.
This curriculum was created to support school communities as they engage in the work of preparing young people to thrive in the 21st century. The research supports the effectiveness of social & emotional learning in schools to increase student’s academic success and college & career readiness. The lessons focus on developing skills and mindsets around building positive habits, understanding our emotions, and increasing empathy for people and communities who have lived different lives than us. The curriculum helps students think about things they want to improve in their school, their relationships, and their world and then provides tools for them to work individually and in teams to close the gaps they’ve identified.
One of the key parts of nearly every lesson is the “CharacterDare” for students. These are invitations near the end of most lessons to put the content that they are learning into action in the real world. If you ever want to play an active role in the CharacterStrong curricula, simply ask your student about the most recent CharacterDare. Maybe they’ll invite you to try one yourself! To learn more about CharacterStrong, check out characterstrong.com to discover other resources for students and families.
