Youth Risk Behavior Survey at MHS
Every two years, the Milton Public Schools, in partnership with The Milton Coalition, conducts the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) for students in grades 9 -12. The YRBS was developed in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This anonymous student survey focuses on the major risk behaviors that threaten the health and safety of young people. Questions will focus on student behaviors concerning tobacco use; alcohol and other drug use; sexual behavior that might lead to unintended pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections; physical activity and recreational activities; and behavior associated with intentional or unintentional injury.
On Friday, April 5th, Milton High School will be administering the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). Results from this survey help to provide accurate estimates of the incidence of risk behaviors among high school students. The Milton data obtained will be compared to the state and national figures and will provide important information for future MPS programming around health, wellness, and counseling-related services.
The web-based survey will be conducted during Advisory on April 5th. Student participation is completely voluntary and all information is anonymous and confidential. If you choose to not allow your child to participate or would like further information, please contact me at kcahill@Miltonps.org prior to April 2nd. A copy of the survey will be available in the main office of Milton High School if you would like to preview the survey prior to your child participating and an FAQ sheet is linked here to answer any questions you may have.
MSE Red Shirt Application for Summer 2024 is Open!
MSE Red Shirt Application for Summer 2024 is for a volunteer or paid position at
Milton Summer Enrichment Program. After volunteering for one summer the student can
then apply for a paid position. Please read the application details thoroughly in the MSE Red Shirt Application 2024. Applications must be completed using your MPS Google account for security purposes. Applications are due on April 5th at 3pm. No exceptions. Summertime Custodians - Milton Public Schools
Summertime Custodians are needed in all schools.
- You must be 16 years old to apply for this seasonal position.
- HOURS: Monday to Friday from 7:00am to Noon (you may be asked to work more hours)
- Mid June to Mid August
- PAY RATE: $17.00 per hour. You will be assigned to one of the schools.

MMEA All State Conference 2024
Our MPS music teachers had a busy few days learning and sharing with close to 900 other music educators at the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) All State Conference in Worcester last week. Almost the whole department was in attendance, and MHS music teachers Julia Hanna and Rebecca Damiani presented two sessions on the work that’s been taking place at the high school to center student choice in music classes. Ms. Hanna presented a session titled “Chart Your Path: A New Approach to Classroom Piano” with MHS ‘08 alum Kendra Nutting, and Ms. Damiani presented “Beyond the Ensemble: Developing Meaningful Electives for High School Students – One Year Later,” a follow-up of the session that Ms. Hanna and Ms. Damiani presented together last year. Recent MHS student-teacher, Rachel Pac, also presided over two sessions about supporting and retaining prospective music teachers of color and understanding the roles that race, class, language, and location play in music education. It was an honor to be able to share the incredible work that’s happening in our music department with other teachers across the state! The MHS music department is truly on the forefront of creating programs that are student-centered and accessible to all in MA. Congratulations, Ms. Hanna, Ms. D, and Pac!
MMEA Student at All States
Happy Music in Our Schools Month! Two of our MHS students were selected for the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) All State Festival which was held on Friday, March 22nd at the DCU Center in Worcester and culminated in a performance on Saturday, March 23rd at Boston's Symphony Hall.
MHS Seniors Nate Brown (concert band) and Atticus D'Allessandro (chorus) were selected to perform in this festival as a result of their hard work and success in completing two rounds of auditions. The first was the MMEA Eastern District Senior Festival Audition in November. Both Nate and Atticus had high audition scores which qualified them for All State Auditions which were held in January. Their selection to these ensembles placed them amongst the top student musicians in Massachusetts. Bravo to Nate and Atticus on this outstanding musical achievement!

Financial Literacy Fair at Milton High
We are excited to announce that on April 12, Milton High School will be conducting a Financial Literacy Fair in collaboration with Early Investors, Inc. (E.I.), which is a non-profit group that promotes Financial Literacy throughout Massachusetts. All students who are taking a business course this semester along with students who took a business course first semester will be invited to participate in the Financial Literacy Fair. During the Fair, students will receive a real-world financial profile that includes an occupation (based on career/industry interests), a corresponding income, a budget, and a series of spending / lifestyle choices. The booths will be run by E.I. staff and its professional volunteers from local businesses and organizations. The volunteers will help students understand financial options, responsibilities, and consequences of decisions made during the role playing activity. The Fair will be a valuable opportunity for students to learn how to realistically budget, save money, invest, and deal with life’s unexpected expenses

Innovative Pathways-Schools to Careers
Innovative Pathways allow students early insight to careers that suit their interests and abilities and encourage paths that they may not otherwise have discovered. Our partners, School to Careers and MassHire, provide Milton students opportunities to forge these discoveries. Both will help connect students with local employers in specific industries for our Internship Program and help to offer real life work experiences for our students in our Career Readiness class.

Extended School Year - Summer 2024
ESY 2024 is quickly approaching! For more information, please refer to our 2023 ESY website. We are looking forward to a fun and educational summer for all students receiving special education services! Please be on the lookout for registration information from your child's Team Chair or Liaison.
Please note that in order to attend ESY Services, your child’s IEP must be returned signed to your building’s Team Chair. Any questions or concerns regarding ESY should be emailed directly to esy@miltonps.org.
AP Exam Fees
400 students will take 1,000 AP Exams this May between Monday, May 6 and Friday, May 17. The full AP Exam Schedule is available on the CollegeBoard’s website. Payments for AP Exams were due November 1, 2023. If you have not paid AP exam fees yet, please visit the high school website and click on the red "quicklink" circle with the $ in it. "AP Exam Fees" are the very top option, and each exam is $98. Seniors who have not paid AP Exam fees will not be able to complete senior sign out or receive their diplomas. If you still owe this fee, you have received an email from Mrs. Meyer (bmeyer@miltonps.org), the AP Coordinator. Thank you for your prompt attention to this obligation.

Updated COVID Guidance
MPS has updated our policy to follow COVID 19 isolation/ quarantine/ exposure guidance released this week from the Department of Public Health (DPH).
On March 25, 2024, DPH released a statement that they have reviewed recent CDC guidance regarding respiratory virus isolation strategies. DPH has updated its recommendations for the general public to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. MPS will follow the guidance specifically highlighted in the section "Schools and Childcare settings." NACAC National College Fair Boston
The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) invites students, parents, and counselors to explore the college search process at the NACAC National College Fair in Boston held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and Friday, May 3, 2024 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The fair will be held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
Students planning to attend should REGISTER ONLINE HERE and print their personal barcode to bring to the fair. This will allow Colleges and Universities to scan your barcode and put you on their mailing lists. In addition, the fair will provide students with an excused absence verification form to bring back to Milton High.
