We would like to thank and congratulate all those who participated in our food drive. Shawnee Mission, DeSoto, and Gardner brought in 5,221 items for local community food pantries. Your efforts will allow those in need to enjoy the coming holiday seasons.

Winter weather is here! Keep in mind that SMSD JCPRD locations do not offer Snow Day care, you will need to make other arrangements.

I want to thank you for remembering to sign your child(ren) in and out. I know time is valuable and it can be a bit of a hassle to sing in/out your child(ren) but it is most important that we continue to remember to sign in/out. Thank you again for taking the time to do so.

• Check-In: We will take roll and have announcements after the kids have come down from school. Kindergartners meet in Room B for snack and roll first. 1st-6th meet in Room A. Each day a new student is "on patrol" and runs announcements and assists staff. If you know your child(ren) will not be in OST please call us at 913.642.6938 or our cell 913.909.1838 or email me at Kelly.griffin@jocogov.org
• If a student has not checked in with us, we will contact you if we haven't heard from you first.

• Snack: We offer kids a HEALTHY snack every afternoon that includes a fruit or veggie alternative.

• Homework/Reading time: Room A is a quiet place students may choose to do homework, read or work on quieter activities. iPads are not allowed except for Fun Fridays (until 4pm).

• Activities: Running Club meets daily and kids are encouraged to run two miles on the track or in the gym. We also dabble in cooking club, craft it up and a variety of STEAM activities.

• Outside/Gym Time: We believe it is essential for minds and bodies to have mental health breaks and join in on fitness breaks. Weather permitting we will go outside. JCPRD follows the Shawnee Mission school district’s weather policy. Please remember to have your child(ren) layer up and bring a coat with their name labeled inside it. We will have structured activities for them to do during this time as well as free play.

• Check-Out: When you come to pick up your child(ren) please remember to WALK IN and SIGN THEM OUT.
