👏 5th Grade Success!
Our 5th graders did an amazing job completing the Illinois Science Assessment! 🧪🔬 They worked so hard to do their best, and we are incredibly proud of their effort and perseverance! 💪🎉
💙 March Focus: Find Your People
At Martin School, our theme this year is "Find Your People." During March, teachers are leading empathy lessons and helping students identify their trusted adult at school. We want every student to know they have a safe and supportive adult they can turn to whenever they need to talk. Teachers will be checking in with students to ensure they feel connected and supported. 🤝❤️
📆 Spring Break is Almost Here!
We are approaching our last week of school before the District’s Spring Break! 🌸🌞 Please take a moment to remind your child of the importance of working hard, being kind, and following school expectations as we finish strong! 💡✨
Thank you for your continued support! 💙🐾
2025 5Essentials Survey is Open
Martin Participation Rate is at 8%
Martin Participation Rate is at 8%-We need to have 20% Participation Rate for the School Report Card
The 5Essentials survey is a statewide effort by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to gauge school climate and learning conditions in Illinois schools. The survey is administered online by UChicago Impact and provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. The District is mandated to conduct a survey of school learning conditions annually. Your participation in this effort is critical as it helps guide district and school improvement planning each year. All Huntley 158 schools need at least 20 percent parent participation to receive their scores.
TAKE THE SURVEY HERE!
Parents/guardians with more than one child in Huntley 158 schools are encouraged to take one survey for each child.
The ISBE survey is available in English and Spanish and is estimated to take 10-15 minutes.
Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will not be connected to you or your child.
The survey closes March 28, 2025. If you have questions, visit the ISBE website or email your building principal.
Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)
District 158 will administer the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) assessment between April 7 and April 18. Students in grades 3-8 will participate in these assessments in English Language Arts and Math.
To promote your child’s best performance, we ask that you:
Make sure that your child attends school and arrives on time on the days of testing
Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep the night before testing
Provide a healthy breakfast on the mornings of testing
Remind your child to ask the teacher questions if he/she does not understand the test directions
Let your child know that you have confidence in his/her ability to do his/her best
Advise your child not to worry about the test—just to do the best he/she can
Provide a healthy snack on the days that your child will be testing
The District expects to receive score reports in the fall. Please contact your child’s teacher or building administrator if you have any questions about these tests.
Important Reminder: Headphones Needed
We have noticed that many students are coming to class without their headphones or earbuds, which has been causing disruptions during lessons. As we prepare for upcoming state assessments in March and April, it is important that all students have headphones to use during testing.
Please take a moment to check with your child to ensure they have a pair of headphones. If they do not, the Martin School Store sells headphones for just $1. Your child can bring in the money any day of the week and purchase them from the office.

2025/2026 Placement Information Form - Martin Elementary
It is the time of year when the District 158 Elementary Schools begin to gather and organize information for classroom placements for the next school year. The following is the language in the student handbook that addresses student placement in District 158.
STUDENT PLACEMENT:
“Student placement is a function of building administration. Teachers work together with the administration to place students in classrooms. Parents may provide written comments or information pertaining to their child’s learning needs by May 1st.”
Please do not submit specific teacher names. Any request with teacher's name will be removed and you will be asked to submit a new request. We ask that the learning characteristics of the child be the main focus of your request. The final placement is at the discretion of building administration.
Mrs. Kresal’s Class Is Hosting A Book Drive
Our class is coming together to support less fortunate schools by providing them with much-needed books. Help us ignite a love for reading and empower young minds!
Why Your Donation Matters:
Access to Knowledge: Many schools lack the resources to provide diverse and engaging books for their students.

Equal Opportunity: Every child deserves the opportunity to explore the world through books, regardless of their circumstances.
What We Need:
Gently used or new children's and young adult books.
- Books of all genres and reading levels.
- Diverse and inclusive books that reflect the experiences of all children.
Drop-Off Location:
Room 228
Collection Dates:
March 12th-April 18th, 2025

Staying Healthy This Spring!
As we prepare for the arrival of spring, we also enter a time when seasonal illnesses become more common. Please remind your child to wash their hands frequently to help prevent the spread of germs. Our attendance rate is lower than in previous years due to viral illnesses, and we want to do everything we can to keep our students healthy and in school. Let’s work together to promote good hygiene habits and a healthy learning environment for all!
