Keeping Up with Comm Arts
~ December 9, 2024 ~
Hello Comm Arts Family and Friends!
We’re so close to Winter Break—just two more weeks to go!
If you have friends, family, or neighbors who would love to join the Comm Arts family, please invite them to visit tonight's Magnet Fair from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Paul Taylor Field House (December 9th). Magnet school applications are open.
Comm Arts will also have Attendance Recovery on Wednesday the 11th in the LGI from 4:20-6 pm.
Parents/Guardians - We will be administering midterms soon. The last couple of days are half days. Buses will run before school starts at the regular time and again at midday (after students have a quick moment to grab a sack lunch if needed). On Thursday, Dec 19, students will be taking their 3rd and 4th period exams. This is also a half day with all students being dismissed at 1:00 PM. Since 4th period is our lunch period, students with transportation can be dismissed after third period which ends that day at 10:57. Students without transportation will need to report to the cafeteria until normal dismissal at 1:00 PM when bus transportation will be available to those who normally ride the bus. Attendance is mandatory for all exams. See the calendar section for the semester exam schedule. There are no semester exam exemptions.
Campus Highlights
Argumentative Letters
Last week, the juniors worked hard on Research Argument Letters on a topic of their choice in English class. To prepare, they looked at an exemplary example of a refutation, puzzled together an OK intro and conclusion, and revised it before editing their own. Juniors also peer-reviewed chunks of their essay in order to work towards making a more cohesive piece that they’ll be proud to turn in! Research Argument Letters are due to Ms. B on Tuesday, December 10th, for a major grade.
Spanish Spelling Bee
Last week, Dana Cifuentes proudly represented our school at the District Spelling Bee. Although we didn’t bring home the top prize, we are incredibly proud of her hard work, preparation, and determination.
She’s already looking forward to next year’s competition, confident and ready to come back even stronger. ¡Felicidades Dana!
Luna Visit
Luna MS received hands-on experience with our yearbook staff and senior journalists. They went outside to take pictures and visited our podcasting booth and studio.
UTSA Screening @ the Palladium
A/V students’ work once again represented Comm Arts @ the UTSA screening night @ Palladium on Wednesday, December 4th. Directors Rayanna Ortiz and Bailey Sapida of “The Ringing” with cast Gracie, Jada, Jeslyn, and Madisohn. Directors & screenwriters Rayanna Ortiz, Bailey Sapida, and Mckenzie Martinez of “Indecisive” with cast Ella, Kelsi, Mercedes, and Nadia.

Counselors' Corner
Seniors, please continue to focus on meeting those college application deadlines. This is a friendly reminder that no one will be available to write letters of recommendation or process college applications or transcript requests over the winter break. Please plan accordingly.
Semester exams are around the corner for students. For some, it may be a stressful or highly anxious time, so prepare yourself ahead of time to reduce any test-taking anxieties. Here are a few things you can do:
- Create a study plan.
- Revisit your notes.
- Create or join study groups, and/or talk to your teacher about any concepts you may still need clarification or help with.
